OPC Football? Basketball?

I know OPC makes baseball and hockey. I also realize they are for a Canadian audience. Does Canada care about football or basketball? Are there OPC counterparts of any Topps football or basketball? I have never seen any, nor see anyone ever request or even mention it on this forum. Not even accidentally. I am curious is anything is like that out there.

If its not a puck and close second a baseball...I don't think Canada cares.

I don't know of any nfl sets but Jogo produced cfl sets starting in the early 80s. The 83 moon is prob one of the must rare football cards from the 80s.

  • I've seen some old 60's CFL (Canadian Football League) cards that I think were made by OPC. They are fairly rare.
Basketball was invented by Naismith who was born in Canada but I haven't seen any OPC basketball cards.

I know there is a 1964 OPC CFL set. I used to have quite a few unopened packs.

Here is what the packs look like:

There were 1998 O-Pee-Chee parallel inserts in the Canadian retail Topps basketball boxes. O-Pee-Chee did in fact produce CFL football cards in the 60s and early 70s. I think Theismann is the most notable rookie as far as NFL fame goes.

Too bad the 98 OPC inserts weren't football. That would be a cool manning rookie

What were the early - mid 70's issues? That included Theismann? Jogo or O Pee Chee?
Edit: O Pee Chee. Man I need to get eyes checked I missed that one response about OPC and Theismann image

Actually now that I think of it the OPC basketball inserts were in 1997 as well.
  • Those cards are kinda cool. I am guessing there is a very limited group collecting these?
  • There are OPC/Topps CFL sets from 1958-1972. I don't think cards were produced in 1966-67-69.

They were in 1997-98 Topps, 1998-99 Topps and 1999-2000 Topps.

I don't know of any Canadian issues of NFL teams, but there are quite a few CFL issues. The early Topps CFL issues look just like the NFL cards from the same years. Here are most of the early Topps and OPC sets:
