Confused on this psa/DNA label

I'm on my IPhone so I can't post the link, but here's the item # 140956112778
Any idea why this card needed to go thru DNA ? It's after the 1998 cut off and comes auto'ed out of packs.
I was thinking the 10 grade was just for the auto but the bottom edge and bottom left corner don't look good to me.
Any idea why the label is what it is?

There is a cutoff date for when PSA agrees w/ "Certified" cards. I believe it's 2002. Not 100% on that though. Beckett is the same way. Easier to forge (especially stickers) from earlier because the base cards look the same as the auto'd ones.
  • The only reason I can think of is that perhaps it is not mentioned on the card anywhere. For example: All topps pack pulled auto's have "certified topps autograph issue" either on the front or back of the card. If a card does not have some kind of notation on it authenticating the autograph I believe it is treated on the same level as an in person obtained autograph. A quick ebay search also turned up the same card in a BGS/JSA holder as well so PSA is not the only one demanding a authentication prior to slabbing.
  • Stang, that makes sense. Although I've never had one in hand to see if it actually says certified auto on the back etc

The cutoff is 1998, so it didn't need to go through PSADNA. This card is graded 10, if it was an autograde, the label would be Blue. My guess is that the person who submitted didn't understand that post 1998 pack issued autos don't need to go PSADNA.

I see this every so often on eBay. I'm guessing it's just novice PSA submitters not knowing for sure and erroring on the side of caution.

Wow! that is one sorry looking 10. The bottom, lower left corner and the entire left edge of the card have issues. Somebody was asleep at the wheel.
