I would like to ask for some help to identify some information so I can catalog properly into my collection.

1. Which one is obverse and reverse? I am temporarily use as the above. I am also not sure whether the orientation is correct. Please advice.

2. How do I know from which colony it came from?

3. What year it was produced?

This piece came from Sumatera, Indonesia claiming to be originally found in that area. So far, it is quite interesting!

Thank you very much.

  • I could be wrong but I dont think most cobs will give up that much detailed information. You have it nailed down to being struck in Bolivia and probably having sailed over to Indonesia which is pretty good! I would date it roughly between 1621 and 1700. Maybe there are cob experts that can tell more.
  • hello coachbedford,

I've been looking around in Krause catalog and saw some resemblance on KM8 and KM14, page 145 World Coin 1600.

Unfortunately, I cant be sure enough and putting incorrect information will reflect future reader.
