Step Up And Take A Shot At Me-- is this guy for real ?

Edit to add: I am obviously the one in the wrong here. So I want to correct my thinking and say this guy is ebays #1 seller. Please add him to your favorites. Im so sorry for thinking this guy is a total schmuck. My apologies. I hope everyone starts taping cards to toploaders and throws it into a 8x10 padded mailer.

I purchased a low end auto off an ebayer last week, I get the card in the mail today. I can honestly say I have never in my life witnessed this before. Most people put a piece of tape on the top of the toploader or maybe tape thick cardboard on each side of the toploader. No, not this guy. After putting my card in the toploader he placed 3 football rookie cards on each side of the toploader and taped them on the top and bottom to protect my card. Yes directly on the cards, no penny sleeve just tape on the cards. Yes in a way he protected my card, but on the other hand its just a total disrespect for the hobby. He charged me 2.50 shipping and I got no delivery confirmation, just a toploader thrown into an oversized envelope.

Kind of ugly, but the card was protected. And not sure about the shipping cost complaint. He put $2.30 in postage on it. Overcharged you 20 cents?

I had a seller do that, but didn't use modern cards. This was back in January. He used 87 donruss and fleer. I remember thinking the same thing about respect or lack thereof for the hobby also. Tough to explain, because yeah you're glad the card you purchased was okay. image

  • If the taped cards weren't included in the auction, what does it matter?

If your purchased card wasn't protect, that's what you should be concerned about.

He used some pretty awesome stamps on your package, you should feel special. I save those for birthday parties.

.....and I respect that, it just kinda rubbed me wrong. Why ruin cards when there is no point? Why not add d/c when in reality it would of cost you less money? Just a total disrespect as far as I am concerned.

Maybe he doesn't have a printer, or it isn't working. If so, then wouldn't he have to drive to the post office to get D/C? Driving to the post office might take a half hour, while dropping the mailer in a mailbox might take 2 minutes.

  • I see no validity whatsoever in your complaint. You got the card in perfect condition and you knew prior to making the buy that it would cost you $2.50 to get the card sent to you. What difference does it make if he packaged it the way he did or if he drove the card to your house himself and delivered it in person. you got what you paid for did you not?
  • IMO this does not warrant a block, however we dont use tape to secure toploaders for fear of accidental paper loss, we use stickers instead.

No Delivery Confirmation? Claim you never got the package and file a claim. Seems to be the ebay way lately.

I don't always share my wisdom, but when I do, I drink Dos Equis.

OP, I see zero problem with your seller. You got the card you ordered in the condition it was advertised and you were not overcharged for shipping.
  • If he taped the card(s) you purchased, then you would have had a valid complaint. Otherwise, I dont see what the big deal was. I've thrown tons of cards away in the trash. At least he's using his commons in a more productive manner. Does his packaging suck - no doubt! Just block him if you prefer not to do business with him and move along I guess. I dont see why this was even made into a thread? About the shipping, as someone else mentioned, you knew thats what he was going to charge. Its also not like he put 1 stamp on the envelope either and kept the rest of the shipping charge for himself. When mailing a card in a top loader with a penny sleeve inside if its mailed in a regular envelope - he could of done it with 1 stamp however. When Im buying 1 raw card, I wont pay more than $1 shipping for it. Im already expecting it to come how i described.
  • Sounds like a successful transaction. Item as described, shipping charges fair, and card extra protected.

Good seller IMO. I understand the extra cards might be a pain in the ars, but to start a thread about it??? Hmmm...

Last I checked, you can't block a seller on ebay... you simply don't buy from them anymore.

Besides, I find the seller's packing material kind of funny. Should have at least folded that 8x10 envelope though, but it isn't worth a complaint if everything arrived in one piece.
  • That's not a bad idea....Being a Lions and living in Denver I'd use nothing but Jay Cutler cards to protect my buyer's purchase.
  • Did you want those football cards for your "refrence book"?

  • Some of you guys are really, really being a little tough on Dave here. Just because you don't agree with a guy doesn't mean you should bash him. I don't agree with everything I read on these boards but I'm sure not going to judge a person by a post and then begin an attempt to belittle him here. This guy has taken the time out of his life to send me one card in the mail before just because I was trying to finish a set and needed the card. I didn't ask him to and he didn't ask for anything in return. It just showed up one day. And while that may not make him a Saint, it was an act that I remember and that also led me to stand up here and cry "foul".

For the record, while I understand Dave's point about disrespecting the hobby I do believe he may have been a bit over-sensitive with the post as well. But we all have our bad days don't we???
I'm a big Nolan Ryan fan OK???!!!

Get out from behind the alt and be a man. Ill include pictures for you later of my book that you claim is bogus. You have always hid behind an alt and attacked me. That makes you nothing more than a punk a$$ little (dog)!

  • I can see both sides of the argument as being potentially valid to a point. However in terms of ebay and successful transactions I think yours came out 100% positive as you got your card and the shipping was reasonable. Now on the other side of the equation as a fellow sports card collector even if you used 3 1989 Topps Don Schwartz cards on both sides of the toploader for protection I would still be mildly irritated as you could give those cards to some big Don Schwartz fan and make his day. Good day to you gentlemen!

I don't see anyone bashing the OP. I see the OP bashing others though. Too bad, it seemed like respectful responses....
  • Sorry I didn't mean that several were bashing him....I just happened to read a little bit deeper into one response in particular and was mostly referring to that person. For whatever reason there's some harsh hatrid going on there and if anybody else has looked a bit deeper they'll know what I'm talking about. Guess I should've aimed my response to that one person.

Besides, with the icon that Dave has I decided I was going to side with him before I even read any posts.

Crap! This reminds me that a guy paid for an item a couple of weeks ago and had a note via paypal to "mail with stamps" because he collected stamps. I forgot to do that and went standard paypal shipping labels. I forgot all about that until I read this thread.

    Thanks,
