I like the 2011 Bowman Chrome's for Harper. I'm partial to that because during a date on our anniversary, my wife picked up a blaster box at Target and it turned out to have a 2011 Bowman Chrome Bryce Harper Auto. Refractor. image

For a ROOKIE card, it will likely be the 2012 Topps Chrome. However, most modern baseball collectors prefer his 2011, as thats the first year he was in the system, so those are his first prospect cards.

Give me the 2010 Bowman Chrome USA over any of those cards any day. The monster will be his /100 auto from that year but I'd be quite happy with a blue refractor.

Give me the 2008 USA Baseball and the autos in that set over those.

You can have them. I'd rather have a 2010 Buyback.

You can have the crappy buyback. lol
  • The question in the OP was "what is a byrce harper rc"

Are you guys saying that USA and buyback cards are RCs? I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just curious as what criteria you're using to decide that those are RCs.

The only thing that's certain is that you'll get three different answers if you ask three different people what a rookie card is. Allow the market to dictate it. And if you want someone to tell you what the market will do in the future you're probably better off playing Powerball.

2012 is his official RCs. Anything before that can certainly be called a rookie card, but his TRUE RCs are 2012.

2012 are where his official RCs are. Anything before that are XRCs or Prospect cards.

As you can see by this thread, different collectors (or maybe investors) value different cards based on market prices, whereas a player collector would want them all.

As the OP asked for RC advice, the first reply by Stadium1978 lists the official RCs as sanctioned by MLB and catalogued by Beckett checklists. I agree with many of those who like to collect official RCs that the Bowman Chrome, Topps Chrome, and Bowman Draft are always some of the most popular (though not the most valuable).

Good luck and have fun--no matter what you choose to collect.
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.
  • He's already expensive

You want his rookie cards - 2012

You want his most valuable cards - look for various autographed cards from 2011 and a few before and autographed cards from 2012.

Agreed. Very good looking card in my opinion!

    Thank you for replies.

I am not looking for rarity or an investment..just if he is the real deal and makes it big...I am not stuck buying his card
    at top prices.

Sems like 2012 chromes are the logical choice.
