Home Trading Cards & Memorabilia Forum

Just got this in my e-mail from a Probstein auction. Does not show up in e-bay. SPOOF !! Beware !!

This was in my e-mail and not in my e-bay when I go to my homepage. Reported it to e-bay. So people are still trying to scam this way so watch out !!
It looks a lot more legit in the e-mail. I just copied and pasted what I could.
Cheers, Steve

This has been going on for years and there's a few threads about. I just got one with the same jrengineer70@gmail.com email address from one of wcsports1's auctions. I played along to see what they try next. They will send you wire transfer instructions for a foreign account.

The scary part is they always have my personal info and exact underbid correct. Does anyone know how they get that info?

I'm not sure about the personal info, but your bid amount is in the bid history.

What ergo said is exactly right, and my exact experience. I also played along and called his bluff.

I told him I was more comfortable meeting in person. He said he was in New York, knowing full well I'm in California. I told him I travel all the time and will be in New York all week next week, he said he'll be out of town, I asked him what day he gets back. When he told me, I said I'll be in New York that week too. What day do you want to get together? Still waiting for the response from that one...lol

It's the same guy with the engineer E-mil. I sent it to ebay and called them but I dunno what they're doing with it.

Did you use a snipe service for your bid? If so, I wonder if they could have somehow gotten your user ID and exact bid amount from there?

  • NO to the snipe. Ebay got back to me and basically said what I already knew. Spoof e-mail. I sent an e-mail back and asked how did they get my e-mail address if the problem isn't on there end?
We'll see what they say, if anything. Told them fix the hole.
