1996 Sports Illustrated For Kids #536 Tiger Woods....

I have had my eye on this card for a few months and finally decided to pull the trigger and get one. There was an auction for a PSA 10 that ended at $7,200 recently and I didn't want to waste anymore time looking for my first copy.

This example has a very clean surface but I do realize that the top border will hurt the grade. I did my best to take it apart and have some recent practice on other 1990's perforated cards.

The perforations look a little flat on the middle part of the left side and the lower corners look a little rough. I am not sure how much these issues will affect the grade.

I had a chance to meet Tiger Woods in 2008 and after the encounter I became a fan.

Here are the scans.

The snow in the scan are not on the card.

I've never been able to grasp all the grading rules for perforated, so I've historically avoided them. But if you're a Tiger fan, I guess this is a must own. Looks good.

Nice pick up. What's up with photobucket? I had the same prob when tried posting pics too. For a long time I chose the 96-98 foil masters card... But recently decided to go after the si for kids card too. I got a sheet pretty cheap but the tiger had a crease on if. Prob a 3 or 4 at best. Ill eventually step up and upgrade.

Solid price for a qualifier on the card. Those are so tough, I notice SI For Kids today and a lot of them are perforated just like that or worse...... I had a Steve Austin that went through the middle of the card. It was awful. I just had to take a paper cutter and cut it where the lines should have been. I could not imagine that the perforations could be any worse.

Nice to see Tiger win today.

I plan to send this card in with my 15 card collectors club renewal voucher shortly.

There is no chance the card will grade higher then a PSA 8 but I think it has a shot. I sure hope so.

Mine has a bit of yellow on the right side which probably hurt the grade a point, but its pretty similar

The Tiger came back a PSA 8. Very pleased.

This card is starting to get some momentum and if he keeps winning I think it has a chance to come back from the dead.

    Nice card David,

I always wanted one of those signed but never found a legit signed one.

  • I just checked this card out on ebay in this grade and it has some kick to it. Imagine how many SIFK are still out there somewhere with this card still attached inside.

    Very nice.

Tiger's doing a signing for 1k/signature (for small items). Pretty steep but not too many chances to get one signed:

It's not actually a palm beach signing. It's a send in through them to Upper Deck. My guess is he will not sign it. He doesn't in person and if UD sees it, they might shut it down anyway.

And the most surprising thing in your post is that you became a fan AFTER meeting him. I've met him 5-6 times. The guy is a jerk and was every single time. Maybe if you're one on one in a business meeting or something he's cool, but never near a golf course.

Vito I could see him being a jerk in a golf setting. My Tiger story is a good one.

In 2008 my wife and I were getting married and she did not want me to have a bachelor party so instead we had a joint one and got a big group together to go out partying in
downtown Orlando. I had a friend at the time that for several years said he was on a first name basis with Tiger as he had worked at the Isleworth Country Club in Windermere, FL
which is just outside of Orlando. I thought he was exaggerating. Right when we walked into the club Vintage where we were going there is Tiger Woods and he yells hey Ryan. I was
speechless. So they chat for a moment and I shook Tiger's hand and then we headed into the little roped off area to get bottle service. A few moments later Tiger and another guy and two hot blondes get ushered in and take the table behind us which is just a handful of feet away. The word on the street at the time was that Tiger was hooking up with a lot of hot young chicks and that rumor was definitely confirmed that night. Tiger was sitting at this point with his arms around both blondes and smoking a cigar. Admittedly I was star struck and kept turning in their direction and every time I would I would catch him staring at my wife and he would quickly turn away. A few minutes later the chicks got up to go to the restroom and I walked over to Tiger. He had a very puzzled look on his face when I approached him. I said something like this "I am sure you get tired of people coming up to you and I am not even a golf fan. The guys in the office had the tournament on when you had your hurt knee and that might be one of the greatest sporting achievements I have ever seen and I just wanted to tell you. Nice to meet you". He was speechless and just said "wow thank you very much" and I walked back a few feet to where I was. Less then 10 minutes later I see a photographer coming into the club with a big camera and he sets up shop to try and take pictures of Tiger with the two chicks. I quickly alert the bouncers and the guy with Tiger and position myself in front of Tiger's table. He bee lines it out of the club in seconds. The guy with Tiger thanks me and says we have these two bottles of Grey Goose you guys can have them if you want them. We said hell yeah and got two 1.75 bottles and saved $500 bucks on liquor. After that night I was a fan. The funny part about the story is I told a few people that Tiger was cheating on his wife with lots of women and they didn't believe me. When the news came out a few years later they said wow Dave you weren't lying.

I am rooting for Tiger to make a comeback. He certainly isn't the first pro athlete to have a lot of women outside of their marriage and he won't be the last. He just happened to get caught.

  • Great story Dpeck. Hopefully Elin doesn't read that or else I fear she may take a golf club to your car next for helping him. Lol

That is a good story and glad you shared it. The best part is that your wife is way better than the collection of women Tiger has hooked up with. The only doubts of authenticity to your story is that your wife is not blonde! I swear Tiger goes for the washed out blonde no matter if the gal is a train wreck otherwise. Weird.

Thanks for the great story! That was awesome to read first thing this morning. I'm not a fan of his promiscuity while married and of golf, but I really enjoy watching him play whenever I can catch him on tv. Great card!

Great thread and story David. Just wanted to jump in and share my Woods:

    image

Also, the new photobucket copy paste feature for IMG double pastes the link. You need to edit out the dupe so it does not make the picture slide all the way to the right. This looks like crap on a desktop but really screws up the format on a smartphone.

    BGS 8.5 Tiger Woods

This is a very nice looking Tiger Woods. I have this on my watch list and I am interested to see if it clears the reserve and if so how it finishes.
