PWCC vs Probstein eBay selling advice?

I don't sell that much on eBay. By no means a big seller.. But I have a couple cards that I think would sell for a decent amount of money.. 500+. My question is should I bother consigning or just list them myself? What's the upside to consigning and which company would you recommend? Thanks for any suggestions

From what I have seen the last couple of years since I have been on I say co sign all the way. The possibility of the card going for way more then VCP is much greater with all of the potential buyers when you include Prob and PWCC.

I am in a similar situation and have the same dilemma as you. My take so far is that the new eBay fees will factor in a great deal on which avenue to take. Many will say to start with a higher BIN with BO and try to sell it on your own, but it all depends on the buyers interest for your items. I think going with a consignor is a good idea as they have a good following and generate higher bids based upon their reputation, plus you are free from the other hassles associated with the sales. The one thing that may change my viewpoint is if eBay raises their fees and the consignors follow suit. Upon examining consignors, I think I like the idea of my item being viewed by a larger audience with a certain one having international shipping. I am not sure how many bidders that they have that are outside of the US, that would be a great piece of information to have.

If you don't sell too much and you have low feedback (under 100), you might want to consign them. A $500+ card can sometimes raise flags for buyers if they're being sold by a relatively unknown ebayer. Otherwise, I would suggest selling them yourself.

If you do decide to consign, either one will work. I see PWCC get amazing prices on $500-1000 cards, but I have never used them, so I really don't think I can speak for them one way or another. I have used Probstein a couple times (50 or so items ranging from $20-$800) and he has done well. You can't go wrong either way.

  • Consign. You'll only pay 5-10% more in fees than you would have had to pay anyway (depending on the hammer price), and it's more likely than not that the extra percentage will be offset by them realizing a significantly higher price than you would have gotten as a small seller.

On top of that, if the buyer turns out to be a problem child..... that's THEIR problem, not yours. I think it's a no-brainer for cards of significant value.

I have used PWCC and everything went professionally and flawlessly. I have not used Probstein before.

Thanks. I have over 300 feedback but most of it is as a buyer. Also the cards are mostly oddball stuff.. Can you request certain things in the description or title or do the consigned just list what it says on the flip?

I would expect they would take requests if you want something specific on there. They're both very likely to know the proper title buzzwords to get the most amount of eyes on their own, though.

    Eagles,

It all depends on your cards.

If you have cards that have a limited collecting base, then sell them yourself at a price you are comfortable with.

If you have cards that you feel will attract three or four serious bidders, then go with PWCC or Rick.

You about to enter a world of pain.
  • My two cents worth here.... I have used Brent over at PWCC and never had any serious issues, however, I would like to see more in the description area about the card that is listed. On less expensive items under $100 you are much better off to list those yourself as the fee structure is brutal for any card or lot under $100 in my opinion. I can see it from Brents point of view that he has to make a profit and selling a lot of $10.00 cards makes it hard.....

I have never used Probstein, my problem with his auctions is that usually he only shows the front of the card and not the back, there is no spacing between other auctions and bad timing in my opinion. I think auctions should end around 9pm PST so that both coasts can likely place bids. If its 2am where I am at I will likely not bid! Also Brent uses a scanner that shows clarity and all the details about the card holders as well.....

Either the 58 quigol pele or the 58 Titulares, a 2004 panini mega cracks Messi are the biggest ones. Then maybe a few other small cards.

  • I also forgot to mention that Probstein has no forms where it states rates and you list each card before sending like PWCC does! I need to see the rates in writing, like a contract before I send my cards!

I'm holding out until they get their own websites and prices explode.
