New to the site and new to PSA graded cards. Started collecting PSA football cards about a month ago and I'm hooked on PSA graded cards! I looked at a thread about wrestling PSA cards and couldn't believe it! I watched wrestling as a kid in the 70's. I loved Rocky Johnson, Pat Patterson, and Ray Stevens! Anyway, I just bought a wrestling all-star Rocky Johnson PSA 8. I can't wait to see it!

The Rocky Johnson card is a tough one and there are some beautiful cards in PSA 8 holders. I think you will be pleased when you get it.
You probably know this but he is Dwayne Johnson The Rock's dad.
The other two wrestlers have cards as well. Pat Patterson is in the first set and Ray Stevens is in the second set. Ray Stevens is one of the toughest cards to find in strong condition. At this time there are no mint copies known. Almost every card is 80/20 centering side to side of him.

Yea I know that Rocky Johnson is The Rock's father. Also, Peter Mavia is Rocky Johnson's father, I watched him as well!

<< <i>Getting a Kerry Von Erich PSA 9 is very, very tough. I have a PSA 8 for the moment and probably will not be getting that 9. I hope to get a signed one first. It is great to see so many people getting a wrestling card here and there. When I first joined these boards I felt a bit alone in my collecting interests and now that has all changed. Good luck in your quest. >>
For me, the cards bring back great memories from when I was a child. I grew up in the Bay Area Cali. Not only did I watch wrestling every Saturday morning I went to several live events in San Jose.

I've had my eye out for a PSA 9 Von Erich for over a year and figure I'll be waiting much longer just to get a shot at one. There's a good chance I wouldn't pay whatever it would go for, so I may never have it.
I have to thank this forum, especially you and Dpeck for lighting the wrestling card fire around here. I think wrestling was a really big part of most kids' experiences in the mid 80's. The Von Erich's were royalty in the Dallas area at that time. I remember them coming to my small home town (pop 4000) about 60 miles north of Dallas to put on a show in our high school gym. I have honestly never been as star struck as I was as a 12 year old boy meeting Kerry in the locker room and having him sign an 8x10. He was incredibly friendly to me that night. I was a pudgy adolescent and I remember him asking me if I was going to wrestle when I grew up. Of course I was! That photo hung on my wall until I got married at at 21. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find it in the last couple of years. I know it's put up somewhere! The only other autograph I got that night was Ice Man King Parsons. I still have that one too. What I would do relive those days!!

Jbox it took $179 to win it so if you wanted it that was the cost. I don't think you overpaid at all.
At the moment there are only two PSA 9's and I own both. I was able to pick out which cards I wanted to showcase in the SMR and I chose a Kerry Von Erich. I continue to believe it is one of the best cards in the set in any grade.
The Von Erichs were like rockstars and there will never be anything like it again.

<< <i>I just bought a box of 87 OPC Wrestling to rip. I haven't bought any singles yet. >>
Not to hijack the thread, congrats on your first wrestling card purchase. I am a child of the WWF 80's and Dpeck's and WCK and Eagles' threads have inspired me to start watching raw and PPV's again the last year or so, and at least get wrestling cards on my radar. So thanks for that fellas.
Anyway, is there anything worthwhile in 87 OPC Dpeck, WCK? Picked up a couple of unopened boxes and they're just lying around.
I would echo the sentiments of WCK that you want to be on the lookout for the Bret Hart card. This set also features the rookie card of Honkey Tonk Man and I remember in the past a board member being excited to see him on a trading card.
The set features photos from the historic Wrestlemania III and has a number of good performers in it. Hogan, Andre, Macho Man, The British Bulldogs, Steamboat, Harley Race and many others are featured.
There is definitely a good value proposition with a box and while you don't have the chance to land a card that will sell for thousands I think a PSA 10 Bret Hart would easily sell for more then $100 and many of the other cards in a 10 would be $25 or more. I have never opened a box so I am not aware of the coalition. The Topps packs have 10 cards in them with 9 from the set and 1 sticker. Apparently there are no stickers for this set so if you get 360 cards in a box and the set is 75 cards you could put a few together with one box and I would think they could sell for $20 or more so the break up value of a box could pay for itself.
If you decided to bust them open posts some scans and good luck.

1982 Wrestling All Stars Rocky Johnson Graded Card PSA 8
Had to put off buying football PSA cards when I discovered them, thanks to all of you. The funds are low since buying all the PSA football cards. But there are only a few more PSA wrestling cards, then its back to football cards!!!

<< <i>Thanks a lot for the OPC info Dpeck. Will post when I decide to bust. >>
