Do a lot of Vintage High Grade (PSA 9) Set Collectors use eBay as much as Auction Houses?

Just curious as to what your thoughts are on the main purchasing avenues used by graded set collectors of vintage material in high grade. Reason being that I have decided to sell off a couple low pop 1962 Topps Baseball (Pop 3, Pop 4). I had some good results in using an auction house for the first time last fall but also have seen some low pop cards reasonably well on eBay lately. Example: a 1962 Pop 4 went for $500+ and a Pop 3 for $800+ recently. My thoughts/questions:
1. Really low pop cards (<5) do not come up for sale all that often so serious collectors may depend on auction houses or personal contacts/buyers they work with to acquire these cards.
2. On the other hand, 15-20% AH commissions can be saved by purchasing on eBay and perhaps they would bid a little higher than with an AH.
3. Do you think serious high grade collectors spend time searching eBay anyway?

Houses add larger buyers premiums and as a buyer I take that into consideration.
