RG3 Photo Op from Chantilly

After dropping $150 for this photo-op, I was terrified my son wasn't going to cooperate. Thankfully, we were able to keep him in a good mood while waiting in line (thank you smartphone and YOUTUBE episodes of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse).

RG3 was great, shook hands with me and my wife when we came in, looked my son in the eyes and said Hi to him also. It was quick, in and out of the booth in less than a minute, but while waiting in line, could see RG3 seemed to be genuinely enjoying himself and made everyone feel welcome. Shook my hand again on the way out and responded to my "Good luck with the rehab and next season" comment.

Never heard a bad thing said about him in the lead to the draft last year or since then and don't expect I ever will.

Really thrilled with the whole thing, RG3 was great, and my son cooperated fabulously.

Great photo. I agree that he sounds like a real great guy. I have rooted for him from day 1, although I am a Giants fan.

Did you get an auto with that $150.00? If not, WOW, that's a big price to pay for a photo.

No autograph for the $150. That would have been another $150, but I can get an aftermarket auto for less than that.

Before they started charging for photoops, you'd get the autograph, maybe the player would look up while you lean over the table for the picture, nothing was preventing someone in the background from being picking at there nose or ass. There were many guys I overspent on autographs for the chance at the photoop (some turn out good, some many don't) and I have sold most of those autographs already.

I feel like for the right athlete, the moment of 1 on 1 interaction, the clean background, studio pose and interested/attentive smile, can more than make the picture worth the money. There aren't too many guys I would spend $150 for this on, but if funds weren't limited right now, I would have been showing off about 4-5 others photoops (most of these would have been $40-$80 range).

    RGIII is good people.

    Thanks for sharing.
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
  • i personally think 150 is too hi. i know some athletes charge more than that. i also think anything over 100.00 for an autograph is way to high.
    just my .02.

  • I was there on Sunday as well. They sold out of photo ops of RGIII at $150 each somewhere around 300+/- people. They also sold out the autograph tickets to the public which is the first time since I have been going to Chantilly that I heard of someone selling out. I was also talking to an autograph dealer friend of mine who said that between the mail order items and the dealer items in the back, RGIII came on Saturday after the show hours and signed over 5000 items( Yes, 5 Thousand!) in the back room. Right now he is about the hottest autograph going by a long shot. People were also saying that there is such a demand that he may be back for the Chantilly show in July.

Photo ops were capped at 50 total.
In the 6 years I have been going to this show, the only other sellout I know of was Terry Bradshaw during his first visit there.

My son was the last person in line for the RG3 signing at Chantilly. This is a Washington Post Print Plate.
