Coin Guy Seeking Info on Bullion Gold Coins

Walkerguy21DWalkerguy21D Posts: 11,439 ✭✭✭✭✭
First time visitor here on the Precious Metals forum - but I recognize a number of coin forumites' names here....
Anyway, a friend of mine is interested in acquiring some gold bullion in coin form, and wants to know best places to buy
and what competitive prices are for American Eagles and Buffalos.
One price he found is $90 over spot for these, a little less (~$75) if he opts for Maples and K-rands.
Is this 'typical', at least right now? I do not expect him to be a big volume guy, probably looking to acquire a handful, at
least initially.
Are Eagles and Buffs the best way to acquire bullion - as far as liquidity, value, etc?

I appreciate any all help - thanks!

    Welcome in the Metal crowd!
Best price would probably be by a B&M, given that he has one around.
Otherwise, you can tell him to check the following websites (I sorted by my preference).

    ProvidentMetal
    GoldMart
    Goldeneaglecoin
    Gainesville
    Apmex

Regarding liquidity and value, it depends on what he is looking for.
I found the 1/10 and 1/4 ozers to be more liquid if one has to sell.
Though, there is demand for the full ounce as well at these levels.

AGE are the best for the american market. Krugerrand are the best worldwide, imo.

I am sure many people will chime in to respond to your question. I too am new to PMs and while searching put this thread together that gives links to many websites so we can compare prices before we buy. Look over the links and let us know if you have any questions.

    Best,

eagles and buffalos are the way to go.

Without knowing more details on quantity, I recommend Provident Metals or Scotsman. Tulving if buying 20 oz or more. All 3 are reliable and competitive.

Always shop around a little before buying.

Eagles, Buffs, or Maple Leaves are all good choices.

Fractionals will always carry a higher premium per oz.

I have always found it best to buy sight seen, cash and carry. Never
    a misunderstanding.

I prefer US gold. IF shtf, my belief is you will have less problems converting.

    Your milelage may vary.
    Have a nice day
