Goodwill Auction House .....yes that Goodwill

We have all seen on the news about people striking it rich via their Goodwill "finds". I was searching the internet last night for various auctions site and came across a Goodwill auction site. Now I know why I never find sportscards at my local Goodwill.

Anyways here is a auction for "Vintage Topps ©T.C.G Baseball Cards"

Nice Donation

Yea...the shops have gotten savvy about what is "gold" in their donations.

The Goodwills in my area have glass showcases for better items and have weekly auctions. I sometimes donate cards there and hope that they raise money for them in that manner.

I don't understand why cards with wear and creasing are selling that high.

I'm 1/2 finished with my 1960 set I only started a. Few months back and legitimate Ex condition commons regularly sell at $1. For $1.25-$2 you can have all you want. Even the high numbers only sell at about $3-4.

Although ill note that someone went apecrap bonkers in last nights Klinger auction and basically bid twice SMR on a few raw cards. Which makes no sense whatsoever. One of the raw cards specifically got bid 3x the last psa 8 sale. I have a feelin it's someone who's thinks they'll get the card graded at a 9 or 10, but IMO Klinger over grades by a 1/2 grade or grade and you really have to look at the individual card and decide on what grade it actually is. I have no problem with it. He is close on grades and provides nice clear scans. But close is a lot of money. And he is th only big raw seller with that many negs and it appears about half of those a were ones he grades nrmt-mt and the buyers were pissy when a nrmt+ card arrived so they couldn't cash in on their perceived jackpot. Then again, the buyers are dingy to expect to buy raw vintage cards on eBay and walk away with 9's and 10's worth hundreds or thousands.

I dunno, maybe 1960 topps raw baseball cards are somehow the next newest greatest thing lol.

I have bought many items from goodwill auctions. Cards and comics always sell for too much money there. I have picked up some nice game used items and even once or twice a vintage autograph, but its a lot of looking for mostly no bidding.

Completely agree. I've watched their auctions and never bought any cards due to anything decent going far to high in price.

My wife and I do buy some antiques from time to time (when we see something decent)...watch their shipping rates. Sometimes they don't advertise them and you don't want to be "surprised".

Interesting for sure but this lot is already overpriced. I wonder if Goodwill takes consignments? Perhaps they would be willing to give eBay some competition.

I'm guessing that's the case. I also know that one time my wife dropped off cards and the person who was unloading them set the cards aside to go through them first.
