Virtual Card Show For My All Virtual Friends (TONS of Pictures)

I went to a card show tonight and ended up taking tons of pictures with this board in mind, something that I feel this board really never does but we should see more of. I hope you enjoy. I also happened to pick up a card Ive wanted for a bit now for $13.84 less than VCP average for those inquiring minds. Anyways, I really hope you guys enjoy these photos. Please support your local show and go ...and bring a friend. I found this one through Craigslist almost 2 years ago and Ive been going actively ever since. I'm sure there's a show in your area if you take a moment to search for one. Next one you go to, please take your camera as I'm sure just like you probably will enjoy looking at these photos, the same way, I will enjoy looking at yours.

Note: Before 20 people start asking - This show is located in S. Florida and it happens once a month. Overall it was a healthy show tonight. Lots of people there for a Friday and it continues again tomorrow. Then it happens all over in a month. Enjoy!

Picked up this guy.

  • Some really sharp raw high end cards in there...do they try and get graded prices on those as if they graded a 9 or 10.

Marc, that is awesome. Looks like a good show with big name items along with vintage/new stuff and junk wax. Sure wish we had a show in Charleston. The closest one is in Charlotte but it is only 4 times/year. Great job with the pictures and scoring witht the Mattingly rookie.

Very cool. Thank you so much for taking the time to take these.
I love seeing this part of the hobby. I hope it doesnt go away.
    Thanks again!
Also its crazy to see those 4.00 price tags on those unopended wax boxes. Makes me think of the time they were like 20-50.00 per box when they first came out.
    Neat to see them still

Great pictures. Thanks for posting these.

What kind of prices where these dealers asking vs. what could be gotten online?
I'm building a 1968 and a 1970 Topps set. I have lots of 1970s and 1960s to offer in trade.
  • do they try and get graded prices on those as if they graded a 9 or 10

Ive been hearing dealers trying to pull that card more and more recently at shows, however, me personally - If I'm purchasing raw, I'll pay a little premium on it if I think it will grade well but I'm not going to buy a raw card at the grade that the seller thinks its going to get.

What kind of prices where these dealers asking vs. what could be gotten online?

In my opinion, I think prices at shows are better vs. online. You can negotiate with the dealers and if they like you or if you've purchased/dealt with them before, they will be more likely to work with you on their asking prices.
  • Great thread!!!!!!!! Lets make it a regular thing, I agree 100% with ya Foo!!!!

Looks like a sweet show with lots of nice cards. The card show in my area is pretty weak, usually full of raw, low grade commons with very few low grade stars scattered in. Not to mention a lot of overpriced cards.

I almost forgot about some of these things.

-It seems like its almost universal at shows for someone to prop up gold display cases like that, with the black velvet underneath (and expensive cards inside). Interesting mix of cards.

I'm kind of surprised you still see so many vintage raw cards for sale. Like Mantles from the 50's. Or those 53's and 54's. You'd think with this standardization towards grading, grading populations, online data, etc.....most cards like those would be graded by now.
  • awesome thread FOO I really enjoyed it

Very nice report Marc - always enjoy "virtual" tours.

If I go to a show - I plan to do the same thing.

    Thanx for sharing.

I love the case that has the 2 1990 score Martin Brodeur rookies. One is graded a Beckett 7 raw review and the other is a 7.5. Those have to be worth at least a quarter a piece. Looks like there was some quality vintage and I love the case that has the Jordan rookies. Thanks for sharing and I must say that this thread is getting me excited about the National.

Wow that looks like a decent sized show. I am going to a local show Sunday and I have zero time commitments. I could stand in front of the 20 for a dollar box and go through each one. Thanks for sharing.

On a side note. The show I am going to on Sunday never really has any graded stuff. Its like it hasent caught on with certain collectors.

Thanks once again for the great pics! Looks like there was only 1 dealer with wax? Also, from what I could tell, that 1971 Munson looked pretty nice. If so, even at high book it would be a great buy. And that 1974 Jabbar looks nice as well. It is pretty rough to get one centered and in high grade...that would be a good pickup. And lastly, if those 1989 Pro Set football boxes are series 2 and you can get them at $10 or less, that would be a good price for a fun rip.

Thanks for sharing and nice to see prices on cards! I won't buy from a dealer that doesn't have prices his cards...too much of a hassle.

  • It didn't take me long to establish that you was at the Dania card show. Living in England I don't get to very many US card shows at all but I have been to this show 6 times over the past few years. I recognise the cards of John Bucci and also a dealer known as Whitey. Hoping to make it out there this year also but the National in Chicago is also beckoning..last time I was at that event was 1995 in StLouis. I am always willing to assist with UK issues in return for some help with U S issues I need.
