Last Night's Bussineau Auction

Did anyone pick up anything noteworthy in last night's Bussineau auction? I grabbed a couple of the Horrors of War PSA 9's at what seemed like really reasonable prices, along with a few other odds and ends. Anyone else?

I think those Horrors of War cards look really cool.

Can you post a few links to view your winnings?

Sure: Here's a link to one of them.. Here's another.

I think it's a cool set as well, though the main reason I bought them was because they seemed so cheap.

The second one looks so much better in a holder that fits.

    "Molon Labe"

  • Those are awesome!! How big are those cards?

I picked up 4 PSA-8 '57 basketball cards --working on completing the set.

    Those look fantastic.

I would get the first one reholdered if possible if you plan to keep them. I agree the second one looks better in the holder it is in.

Finding mint cards from a set like this from 1938 is just amazing.

I am not aware of the range on these cards as obviously pop reports can significantly alter the value but the prices do seem very reasonable for them.

These are both pop 1 with none higher. I just figured it's probably impossible to get burned on any pop 1 PSA 9 from a popular prewar set for $1300 or so, so I decided to grab 'em.

As an aside, check out the set registry for this set- someone has registered what I think is probably the funniest name for a set ever: 'The Frightful Cost of Set', which is play on the name of card #240.

Good score- There were some really nice looking '57s that hammered at what looked like quite reasonable prices.

do you have a link to the auction, didn't bid on anything but always like to check out auctions to see if I can get some additions to my 55 Bowman football set

I picked up a few nice cards last night, all at reasonable prices in relation to the population report. Can't wait to see the cards when they arrive.

Not to let the cat out of the bag, but Bussineau is one of the few auctions where I've had success in placing bids that don't get maxed out. Some very nice purchases, at that.

    Thank you, Greg.

I was able to add the 33 Goudey Red Background Ruth to my PSA 6 Goudey set. It went for a slight premium but the card is one of the better centered 6s I've seen. It cannot get here soon enough.
    I collect Cal Ripken cards, T206, E95, E210, R319.
  • Picked up the 59 Cubs Clubbers PSA 9 to upgrade my Banks Master set. Greg is an outstanding professional in this business. Very straightforward, which one doesn't see often enough these days.
Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all "right-thinking" people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

This is known as “bad luck.”
