1985 Topps Blackless - Errors - Variations

I have seen the Jerry Royster listed as an error as "no Topps logo" and some premium associated with it before. And the Royster error was listed in the booklet Donovan Ryan put out a few years back. Seeing the Royster it has the same sort of blank ink error that is prevelant in the 1990 Topps NNOF "Streak".

Last night on Ebay I noticed an Ivan DeJesus error listed that also had a broken border. Sure enough they are both from the "C" sheet. I was able to find a bad image of the 1985 Topps "C" Sheet. The cards are in fact side by side. Royster sits at the right edge of the sheet. Ivan DeJesus to the left of Royster. Other cards that could possibly have broken border/blackless areas are Junior Ortiz (above Dejesus) and Jorge Orta (above Royster).

So something similar to 1990 to look for in 1985.

Also same seller had some interesting Goose Gossage variations that seem to be legit.

1985 Topps has very few errors/variations to note otherwise.

    More from 1985 Topps:

Had not seen this variation cataloged before, small amount of 1985 Topps Pat Pacillo cards have an identical "eyelash"

That's actually very impressive to be able to identify those types of anomalies in the cards like that. Is there a collector group that tracks all this kind of stuff ?

Great find! I wonder what kind of production numbers there are for the '85 error vs. the 90 topps. Wish I could help in the search, but don't have much for '85 Topps.

I can confirm the Orta exists as well ..

The only one I have ever seen. An eBay seller had it up years ago for several months for around $200 and someone finally bought it. To do over again I would have bought it. It is possible that the Junior Ortiz to the left of Orta is also affected.

I'd never heard of this. Guess I'll have to try to dig out the monster boxes full of 85s this weekend.
