What grade would this card cross over at.

I know KSA is usually a couple grades lower than PSA but I'm thinking possible 9/outside shot at a 10.
I need some expert opinions as I usually bomb on KSA cross over submissions.

It looks pretty strong. I believe O-Pee-Chee did a better job that year also as far as rough cuts go, not that PSA factors in rough cuts on O-Pee-Chee cards, I don't think they do. I mention rough cuts because there's a possibility that Gretzky has been sheet cut. And if there's evidence of a sheet cut, PSA won't grade it, I'm not sure about SGC. T/B centering is really good on that one. No sheet cut and that card is, IMO, a guaranteed 9 with a decent shot at 10. Register and focus look sharp. No crazy print defects. Nice card.
  • You have two things going against you.
    1. Every KSA card I've tried to cross over has come back evidence of trimming
    2. The subject seller is know for sheet cut cards, see point 1

I learned (which sounds you have to) if it looks to good to be true it is with KSA. The obvious question is why wouldn't these cards be in PSA holders if they could be and sell for dramatically more.
  • Yes, I was thinking that the seller would have this in a PSA holder at a much higher price if it would cross grade.

For some odd reason I wasn't even thinking sheet cut - maybe because I thought KSA didn't grade sheet cuts - but it makes sense now that you mention it.

KSA and BGS both grade sheet cuts. I collect Chelios and Scott Stevens and have bought from that seller before, but in my case I've had no intention of trying to cross over anything.
  • I'd bet the farm that is sheet cut and won't be graded by PSA.
