Grade This Card - Messier RC / Stevens Added

Bought this card raw and am going to slab it regardless. Liked the centering and it it looked decent in the scan, which was poor.

Curious to see how you think I would make out with PSA. Any and all feedback is welcome, you won't hurt my feelings.

And the back. Wondering what that bottom right corner bump will cost me.

Is that white dot common on these cards?

The two white dots above his glove are, they are cameras in the photo. . Ther specs near the top are from the scanner, the card face is reasonably clean.

That is wild that those are cameras.

Looks like a strong card. OPC cards do not show up well in scans with the rough edges so I am sure in hand it looks even better.

    Good luck.

Assuming nothing is taken off for the surface, I'd say an 8 to 8.5. The upper left corner might be a little too touched for the 9.

That card brings back a big memory. 21 years ago in March I went to Winnipeg with my parents. My old man and I walked across the street from Winnipeg Arena to Joe Daley's Sportscards and there, in his showcase, was a gorgeous Messier rookie. We walked out of the store with the Messier, a Brett Hull rookie and an Al MacInnis rookie (yes, we paid for them) and back to Winnipeg Arena to see the Jets tie Montreal 2-2.

    Cold night. Warm memories.
  • I'd be happy with that. The one corner won't allow for a 9.

The centering is as good as it gets, though!
  • OK, let's try another one, that was good times.

This Stevens has a rough patch bottom front and a slight tilt, otherwise looks pretty good to my eye. Curious what the penalty will be for that bottom edge and the tilt:

  • Probably a 9 due to bottom edge. No penalty for tilt.

Bottom corner on the back side of the scan of the Messier keeps it at an 8.

I don't see Stevens getting higher than an 8. Bottom left corner, and that middle bottom edge is a tad too much pushed in
if that's a word for it. I personally don't like tilts, but I don't know if PSA cares . Here's mine to compare. $3 raw purchase.

  • That's a nice card for $3 and nicer than the one above. I see what you mean about the bottom edge - just wondering how much leeway they give for a rough edge. Where did you find the card? I've opened about 8 boxes of 83/84 and am still looking for a gem mint one.

I got mine from ebay. Seller had it for a BIN $3 and free shipping about a year ago. Scan looked great so I snagged it quickly
and even though it came in a PWE, I didn't mind obviously.
