How long would a die stay in use ?

First picture is a 1761 half taler. Second is Same coin dated 1768. My pictures of the 1768 are not that good but it has the same die cracks as the 1761 but much more worn. The 1768 has a large heavy die cud at 3o'clock and the 1761 has the same but more of an out line than the cud. Clearly the start of the cud. I can match up all die cracks with several showing more wear. That means this die was used for 8 years or maybe it was an old die picked back up and used again for the last year of this design. Does this sound possible to you or am I seeing things. BTW a side note my 1768 came in a B. Max Mehl envelope where it resided for approx. 90 years before it found a new home in the NGC holder.

Many of the dies back in those days were used until they shattered, it's quite possible they would have picked up an old die, cleaned it, and struck a few more coins with it.
