Thinking about buying, is it safe.....

I always see people asking after the fact so I am going to do the smart thing.... Does this pass the smell test guys? I have been looking for a Lemieux OPC RC for a while now and would prefer on with the awesome rough cut that OPC cards usually have. This one doesn't have much of that and the PSA Flip just looks off to me. Any thoughts?

I would look for a better centered example.

The flip is fine, it's just old and was graded pre 2000.

Why do so many people on these boards question the validity
of the older flips? Did you all join the hobby in 2011 or what?

    old flip = good

that card as an 8? not so good...wait for a better centered example, with a top corner so so yucky

  • That card is a very weak 8. I have an 8 and the centering is much better, and it doesn't have a weak corner like that card.
  • I'd wait and find a better example. I looked at over 50 PSA 9s before I pulled the trigger.

The rough cuts on the edges are more prevalent in certain years or certain cards. I've seen my fair of 80's OPC hockey and it's very common to have smooth edges throughout.

Is there any reason to suspect this card is not real?

do not ask here .everyone is negative
  • Centering like that would bother the heck out of me.

I agree the nitpicking can get out of hand, but in your opinion is that a strong PSA 8? You think that would get in an 8 holder today?

I think it was a good question to ask.

Thanks guys. The main reason I asked is I always see people asking "validity" questions after they purchase and most of the time it doesn't work in their favor. This card is one of the most reprinted hockey cards out there. Yes Cardbender I actually did join the hobby in 2011. At least the grading part of it. When I left in the early 90's asking opinions on Centering and other "Grading" concerns would have been laughed at, unless centering was 90/10 and/or the card was bent in half. I have come to realize that conversation is one of the most important ways to learn about something and threads like this one create conversation. Hell, isn't that the main reason forums are around? Again thanks a ton for thoughts and tips guys.
