Merc folks.. another killer set emerges

It is another red letter day in the Mercury world. The new number three set is another one of those world class sets we all aspire to.

Check it out, 4th place is now the realistic goal for most people. I expected this to begin to happen, but when you see one added you just have to say WOW!!

This isn't fair in any way shape or formimage You need to start at the bottom and work your way up giving proper signals. This new collection should be broken up and given equally to the rest of the mercury dime members. Everyone PICK your coinimage

    Pat,

I would have to pass on all of them. My secret strategy of building a high quality No Bands set at a reasonable price precludes all those FB coins.

I am surprised no one else has considered this seriously. If you look at the coins I am divesting, you will see very low pops acquired at a cost the working guy can afford. I will miss them.

Wow! and double-wow! Dang! That's a nice set. "The Beverly Hills Collection" - possibly someone in the entertainment business that has a nearly unlimited budget? A set of that quality wasn't put together overnight; someone's really put a lot of effort into that one. If the owner reads these message boards, Congratulations on a fantastic set.

I ditto Jim's congratulations. A major accomplishment. I surely hope the owner both makes it over to these pages to play with us AND provides pictures of his or her set.

P.S. to Pat: I don't know about you, but I am coming to identify more and more strongly with the door mat near my front door.....

I don't think I have any coins that can compete with the top 5 sets. image On the other hand I think I have had more fun putting together my set on a very limited budget than some of the top setsimage
Someday, just you all watch even I may complete my setimage
          I still buy lottery ticketsimage

I think I've figured out the owner of the "Beverly Hills Collection." It must be Robert Blake. He clearly has a lot of money and now he's got the time on his hands necessary to register his set!!

It's the "Old Nashville Collection" that has been Relocated to "Beverly Hills".

Al, saying that it's Jed's (Buddy Ebsen's) collection wouldn't be so far-fetched. He really was a very serious collector. Maybe he still is; after all, he is still living (got to be 90 if he's a day). I remember some of his coins being auctioned off a few years ago.

I'll finally have a couple of additions to my set next week, and will achieve the goal that I mentioned in the "Owner's Comments" section at the top of my set. I'll leave it up to you to figure out which coin I'm getting.image

Didn't Buddy Ebsen Sell quite a large Collection in the 80's or was it more recent ? The Old Memory is not like it used to be. Your Additions,if I am in the right set, will be 23S and/or 24D.image
I still get Names and Sets Mixed Up. Tried to get all of the Info Down but Goofed up on some.
Heck why don't you Guys PM Me so I don't look like a Total Nim Rod on some of these ?imageimage

If Mark feels like the door mat in front of his door then I must feel like that fine dusty dirt under the matimage

OK, I guess the #3 Beverly Hills sets is pretty nice. But, frankly, it doesn't come close to matching the quality of mine.image. Only the Gleipner set is closeimage

Ken, although I need the '23-S and '24-D, they're not the ones I need to fill a particular gap in my set. The link will take you to the right set.

With all the activity in the top 10 sets, I felt I had to do something to keep from being trampled. When Merc's are weighted it may help me a bit.

Buddy Ebsen' s coins may have sold in the '80's, it just doesn't seem that long ago. Then again, 1965 doesn't seem that long ago to me. imageMy memory's not much better than yours (I'm within a year or two of your age - younger, thankfully).image

I had the Right Set. I was Guessing by Your Statement of Date Sets when You Started and You need the 23S to finish Off 1923 and the 24D to finish off 1924. Guess I will have to Wait as You are Holding Us in Suspense.image 65 Was a Great Year !! Fresh out of High School and Ready to take the World on with Reckless Abandon.
