Can't help you with value but it's a medal of some sort, not a coin.

I hate to ask this but how do you know it's gold?

The item doesn't say gold "oro" in Spanish.

If it's around the size of a silver dollar, the weight is about what you'd expect if it was made of gold.

I did an acid test... it's gold.

There were many medals (in gold, silver, and bronze) made in 1968 when the summer Olympics was held in Mexico City. Most of them were of private manufacture, i.e. not made by the Mexican Mint and have Aztec themes such as this one.

I bet most of these, particularly the gold ones, have been melted over the years.

I am going to step out on a limb and venture that it is indeed gold - but of private manufacture. MdM did do some medals that were struck on planchets that were made for the 10, 20 and 50 peso coins during the 1950s - I own a 50 peso size gold medal that was struck to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Mexican constitution.
