Shipping a $2,000+ set

How would you guys ship a vintage set that I have sold for over $2000?

The 2 options are using Ebay shipping via USPS Priority Mail with insurance. This will cost $42.10.

or

I could take it to the Post Office and ship it with the more secrue Registered Mail with insurance. Apparently, Ebay shipping does not offer the more secure Registered Mail. Registered Mail is more secure, but takes a little longer due to the security measures taken. I am not sure how much this will cost. Any idea?

Shane ... go to USPS.GOV and you can make all your calculations.

Looks like Registered Mail on a $2,000.00 value cost $16.85 additional.

Registered used to be cheaper for anything insured for over $800. Not sure if it is true with the price increases, but you should check in on it.

How much does the weight of the set add to the cost?
  • USPS Express Mail with insurance (USPS not ShipCover), printed through ebay, is often the best option for a 2k item. This of course depends on the weight and distance.

That's my advice, too. Registered is ultra-secure, but warn the buyer that it might take a few days longer than usual. And do pack the cards well. I have received a few broken holders recently because the cards were packed too tightly in a flat rate box.

Thanks guys. Registered it is. I actually asked the buyer which he preferred and he said he actually preferred Registered even though it is slower.

Also, no slabs to worry about.

Bear in mind registered is REAL SLOW!! I shipped a card registered one time, TOLD the buyer I shipped it registered, and then two weeks later, got the "Where is my card?" email......I am lucky I didn't get negative feedback, through no fault of my own, as the length of shipping time is totally out of my control.
