PSA grading time frustration

I submitted 4 submissions for the 20 day review at $10 each. Considering the average special is about $5 I figured I was paying twice as much but would get my items done in half the time. I could live with that. I sent PSA almost $1000 for these 4 submissions. I called PSA on business day 20 and was told they should be done soon. They also said reviews have to be done by head graders so they backup. I told them that when they made the 20 day special they already knew who had to grade them so if you already know that you can not do the reviews in 20 days the why are you having the special and why are you charging $10 per review. I do feel because of posting this message it could affect my grades but just had to vent my frustration. Today is business day 25 and nothing has changed on any of the submissions. I get the feeling that they have not even looked at my submissions yet.

If your submission is significantly over the estimated business days, you may be able to obtain some free grading vouchers. I would call customer service to discuss. However, as they have already told you, reviews are always done by the head grader. I believe submissions with high declared value cards are also done by the head grader. Therefore, there is typically going to be some back up here.

Turnaround times are estimated and not guaranteed. My last pack sub took 67 business days instead of the estimated 45 days.

My point was that PSA is charging $10 per item for a 20 day special instead of say $5 for a 45 day special. If PSA is going to charge double what a normal special would cost then there is reasonable expectations for PSA to somewhat meet their deadline and not miss all 4 of my submissions by a large amount. The head grader excuse does not work either because PSA already knows this is the case before they even make the special. Seems that PSA just throws that 20 day turnaround into the special with no expectation of meeting it just to get people to pay more. If they were to list it as a 30 day special I bet they would not get very many people to pay $10 per item but my guess is that it will be at least 30 business days with not very favorable results. I hope I am wrong.

In my experience, reviews take longer than the estimated time frame in almost every case. I am thinking more like 30-35 business days.

I still have 2 december subs (one for cards, one for packs) that still haven't popped yet. the 3rd sub, sent with the others, popped in 3 days.

Question are the cards you are waiting for all regular sized? I'm asking cause I always seem to have to wait longer than I should but I also always have some oddball discs or stickers included in my subs and am wondering if that is what slows it down?

Do you honestly think PSA will punish you for complaining about the wait time? Seriously?

Just wanted to say that I too have been a victim of slow grading, especially as it relates to the requirement that cards go to the head grader (for crossovers, not reviews). I can honestly say that I do not believe my complaints influenced the final grades, and if I were you, as difficult as it may be, I'd take extra comfort in the fact that the cards must visit this head grader. That's not necessarily a bad thing if you are looking for a legitimate professional opinion.

Also, in the past, PSA has been quite generous in awarding free grading vouchers (and generous enough that I NEVER complain about processing time until services have been completed). If you contact customer service after the fact, you may be pleasantly surprised by the response. It's ok to make them aware of the situation beforehand, but I don't think they've ever done anything spectacular to speed up the grading process. Patience, patience, patience.

    Good luck with your submission.

It's a stack of real oddball stuff, so I'm not too surprised actually. Was quite a bit more surprised about the fast pop on the first!

Yeah, if you have strange things i think that can slow things down if you're subbing on the specials..

I really hope not but I will hopefully see soon.

What gets to me is that PSA charges higher amounts for completing the submissions in less time then seem to just ignore their offer. Why make an offer that they know they will not keep? Is it just for more money at the expense of the customer? The head grader excuse they gave me is not valid because PSA knew this before they offered the special.
  • I got beeeach slapped from one idiot for complaining about how long it took for packs to be graded, so apparently this forum is not for sharing 'those' feelings..... tread lightly. PSA is the best!!!!

  • And Grote, if you didnt pick up the phone & call after like day 55, you're an idiot.

My point was that if this was for a 45 day submission I know it may be done anywhere up to 60 business days or even more but when you pay extra to have a submission done in 20 days PSA should not just completely ignore the turnaround time. All 4 of my 20 day submissions are on business day 26. If someone complains about what I am posting then they are just missing the point of what I am saying. If this is how PSA wants to run their business then they should just have one special at one price with no amount of business days listed but if you are going to charge more for a quicker turnaround time then they need to make a better effort.

At this point in the game are stickers and stuff like that really considered oddball to PSA?
Enough to slow down the process?

  • My comment was sort of tongue in cheek - PSA is a good business but has it's share of problems like most, your frustrations are shared by many I assure you, myself included. It would be nice if they could shorten the wait time or allow us to pay a premium for a guaranteed turnaround. Perhaps some day!
