Does anybody store their cards in card savers?

I'm trying to make room in my storage box and was going to convert all of my cards from top loaders into card savers. Anybody store their cards in these long term? Any issues?

Btw. A larger or second box is not an option.

    I don't, and wouldn't.

I noticed some very minor issues developing with cards stored for long periods of time in CSs, where the surface of the card would develop tiny "cracks" in the areas where the CS exerted the most pressure. I only observed this in 1984 and 1991 Topps cards (stored for around 10-15 years), but that was enough to make me move my cards to top loaders.

I've had 1970s cards stored for several years with no issues and have graded PSA 9 on many of them. I do, however, use a penny sleeve before inserting the card into the CS I.

I store all my cards in CSs, never had an issue. I like that they don't slide around like in top loaders.
  • I notice that the bottom corners can get slightly flattened or compressed from card saver I's. Many of the graded cards I buy show this slight flattening.
PSA doesn't seem to deduct for it but I wouldn't put any of my cards in Saver I's.

I use the much larger CS IV's for submitting and never have this issue.

All my sets from '52 thru '56 are in CS I's and have never had a problem.

Top loaders for me. The only time I use card savers is when I submit for grading. I'm not against them, but just never used them for long term storage.

No issues at all with 15 year storage on less valuable cards.
  • I sort of wonder about card savers.

-The card saver II's I have, the plastic seems "new", shiny. Long term, I wonder if the tightness of the fit will affect the cards.

Also, on cards with gold foil (i.e. stadium club cards from 92 or 93), I always use a penny sleeve. Anything you think you can scratch or damage by hand should probably be in a penny sleeve before going in a card saver I or II.

I've always liked top loaders for cards over $5 or $10. They look more professional, and they're sturdier.

Top loader with sleeve for me. The only cards I store in card savers are ones destined for PSA or PSA/DNA.
  • I have made the obsessive practice of most anything i rip I put into penny sleeves. Anything I think PSA worthy goes into a card saver. They stay in there until I decide otherwise.
