Probably Really Silly Question about the PSA Registry....

I'm not on the registry, so I hope this isn't TOO silly of a question. Let's say you have a 1984 Topps Tom Seaver PSA 10 in your registry, and you decide to sell it. The person who buys it wants to put that in their registry.

Are you obligated to remove it from your registry? Can the new person add the card even if you still haven't removed yours? Can the same PSA Flip be in the registry more than once? Concurrently? This isn't like eTopps where its removed automatically. I would assume people have to be on their honor when they update their registry, correct?

And, is there anything stopping someone from add cert numbers for cards they see posted online or on Ebay?

    Yes.
    No.
    No.
  • If you add a card to your registry that you have in hand and it comes up as registered to another user, you send pics in of both the front and the back of the card and PSA adds it to your registry.
  • You send in pics, PSA adds it to yours and then, I assume, removes it from the other registry.

Has their ever been an issue of someone trying to use pics found somewhere else online?

  • Afternoon,

Its one of the issues that I deal with on a monthly basis. I buy collections and sets and always ask the Seller to remove them (A lot of times it doesn't happen). I then add the items to my Store and and months later, or 6 months later it sells and I get the dreaded E-Mail "I can't add this to my set" please remove it! Which I can't as its never been registered to me. So one thing that everybody needs to beware of, its not just if its in somebody's Registered set, if its even been entered into somebody's Inventory in their Registered set area, then you can't use it and have to get it removed form their inventory!

It s a real Pain sometimes, expecially when somebody buys 65 from one set, the guy retired the set, but their still in his inventory. You really think I got nothing better to do than scan 65 1984 Topps Baseball?

Fortunitly I got help and didn't have to do that, got them removed without that step...That Time!!

    Neil

Actually Collect Non Sport, but am just so full of myself I post all over the place !!!!!!!
  • Theoretically you could add any cert number you see on ebay. I know some buyers add them before the card is in their hands.
If you do this without buying the card, then it is contrary to registry rules. Not sure why anyone would want to do that.

PSA removes the card from the other person's inventory, then sends you email. You still have to add it yourself.

I went thru the process yesterday. PSA sent me the email a few hours after I put in the request.

Why would you not just send them a scan to prove you have the card then enter it into your inventory?

I do believe you can use the same PSA card more than once as long its in YOUR inventory.
For example... If you had a 1952 Mantle in a registered 52 Topps set, I believe you could use the same card in a Mickey Mantle player set.

a rule of the registry....you MUST own the card. You cannot add what is not yours.
I hate it when people don't delete a card from thier registry when sold.

As long as its in your inventory you may use that card for whatever sets it belongs in.

This is actually a great question. I used to see the $14 Registry Specials when I was a PSA Member and thought you had to pay to set up a registry set and have cards registered. I now realize that the special is for cards to be added to your registry set.

However this free grading thing is new to me. I am 70% registered for a set. Would one of you please favor me with how I would get free gradings for this set?

    Thanks for your patience.

Free Submissions. We recognize that not every item in every important collection has been graded by PSA. In order to encourage participation in the PSA Set Registry program when your set reaches 90% complete, you are entitled free grading as follows.

If the set composition is 1-50 cards or tickets you are entitled to 1 free grading.
If the set composition is 51-150 cards or tickets you are entitled to 2 free gradings.
If the set composition is 151-300 cards or tickets you are entitled to 3 free gradings.
If the set composition is 301-750 cards or tickets you are entitled to 5 free gradings.
If the set composition is 751-1500 cards or tickets you are entitled to 6 free gradings.
If the set composition is over 1500 cards or tickets you are entitled to 7 free gradings.

Cards which are autographed and dated 1997 or earlier will need to go through the “Grading & Autograph Authentication” service. For these cards, the following free submissions apply:

If the set composition is 1-150 cards or tickets you are entitled to 1 free gradings.
If the set composition is 151-300 cards or tickets you are entitled to 2 free gradings.
If the set composition is 301-750 cards or tickets you are entitled to 3 free gradings.
If the set composition is 751-1500 cards or tickets you are entitled to 4 free gradings.
If the set composition is over 1500 cards or tickets you are entitled to 5 free gradings.

Free gradings are for items within the set that has reached 90% completion. You should request your free gradings with the intent to either add or upgrade your set with the items that are being graded for free. You cannot submit the same item twice for free grades. All items must be submitted at one time. If your set has reached 90% complete, please contact setregistry@collectors.com with your name, address and phone number, the name of the set that qualifies and whether or not your cards are autographed. If you wish to send cards in for different service levels, i.e. crossover, regrade, raw, etc., please inform us when you request your submission form as separate submission forms are required for different types of services. You will be sent by U.S. mail a submission form to be used exclusively for your free gradings. It is your responsibility to pay for postage and insurance.
Please note that Packs are not eligible for free grading.

Believe it or not, there is a scenario in which two collectors can show the same cert in their sets. It happened to me recently. I consigned some cards that were sold and I thought I had deleted them all, but I missed one. I didn't see PSA's email, so the buyer sent in a pic and had the card removed from my resistry. BUT... until I clicked the button to update my set, it was still showing in my set AND it was showing in the buyer's set. An oddity, but it is the way it works.

What a deal! You spend $4000 on grading fees and get a $25 voucher!

There is no declared value limit on the cards within the voucher. (There's no estimated business days either.) So theoretically, you could submit a $10,000 card with your free registry voucher, which would normally have a $400 grading fee.
