Nice runs of wax/rack/cello 80s/90s packs for sale; today's my b-day & need money so wife can ge

I just recently showed my wife my unopened pack collection (which I did about ten years ago) and she is all but drooling over it! In the sense that she is all but begging me to let her and us open all the packs. The problem is that I already have complete sets of most of them and I doubt we could pull anything really valuable (like I think the key early-mid 80s rookies are only worth big coin as 10s, and even then they're no more than $150-$200ish I think). Here is the collection:

Donruss Wax: One of each 1981-98 (one each series)
Fleer Wax: One of each 1981-98 (one each series)
Score Wax: One of each 1988-98 (one each series)
Upper Deck Wax: One of each 1989-93 (one of each series), 1994-98 Collector's Choice (one of each series)

Topps Cello/Jumbo: 1981-90 (one of each)
Fleer Cello: 1981-89 (one of each)

Topps Rack: 1987-92 (one of each)
Donruss Rack: 1986-89 (one of each)
Fleer Rack: 1984-89 (one of each; 1984 and 1985 are the really rare three wax pack rack versions)
Topps Jumbo Rack (100 cards each): 1987-90 (one of each)

I realize most of these by themselves are not worth very much but surely with all these together they might be worth selling to help fund my Ultra Gold Medallion set and early/mid 90s insert set projects? I know how much you guys LOVE pack busts and this may be a really interesting one, but I'm reluctant to do so because like I said, I wouldn't be getting anything I don't already have.

I decided to sell these packs; preferably as the groups listed above. Any takers?

  • My opinion is 81-85 seems to be on the cusp of rising prices as 70's becomes out of reach for some collectors. After that, yes, anything that does not grade a 10 is worth less than book value just about. Opening for Bonds, Griffey, Maddux may not justify the rip. I am not as familiar with stuff in the 90's, but early 90's is worthless. Fun to open, but not sure just for money cards.

I say rip away. I doubt they will be worth much and it sounds like your wife will have more fun going through the packs. It is nice your wife takes such an interest. My wife could care less about cards, which is probably more the norm. However, she doesn't really care that I collect, which is nice.

PM sent, I'll buy them if they're cheap image
    Buying US Presidential autographs
  • Decide exactly how much value you and your wife put on opening all those packs and the answer should be easy

Looks like 120 - 140 packs, most worth less than 50-cents, but still strong demand for the oldest ones

It did take a lot of effort and time to put the collection together so don't expect it to be too cheap image

  • I'd sit on them or rip them. selling them would be more of a hassle than it's worth.

Do what allows you the longest sense of enjoyment from them. If it's keeping them unopened, then keep them unopened.

I'd say keep anything you have from 81-86. Keep the 89 Upper Deck, and the rest, rip away. Everyone is happy! Side note: I wish my wife came close to drooling about any of my baseball stuff!
