Compare two Canadian 10c 1893 round top 3's...

Compare these two and let me know what you think.....

Specifically, look at the placement of the lower loop of the 3 and how it meets with the middle bar of the 3.

I'm thinking it's a lousy match!

I know the 2nd is extremely fuzzy but that's all I can get from the original (it's not mine).

My point is an authentic round top 3 has a large gap and a lower gap between the end of the lower loop and the middle bar of the 3.

Whereas in the 2nd picture, eventhough it's fuzzy, I think we can agree that the tip of the lower loop of the three touches and is almost parallel to the middle bar of the three.

Which leads me to think the 2nd picture is NOT of an authentic 1893 round top 3.

Without knowing anything about how the image you're asking about has been manipulated, there's no way to be sure. If you resize images (read: scale up or down in size), you get weird results sometimes.

You'd have to know what was done to that image between the time it was taken and it was uploaded for online viewing.

edited to add... for one thing, the pic is clearly not round and I'd bet the coin is.

edited again... I have resized images and noticed that on occasion, the design elements (spacing, shape, etc.) look obviously different in the before and after images.

not round appearance may be the positioning of the light cource and the camera at an angle.
But what bothers me is these two things:

1 Why would the seller NOT have this coin submitted to be graded by a recognized TPG and then give it to Heritage to be auctioned.
Perhaps they (Centsles) would like to make a statement about "recognized" TPG?

2 the denticles look suspicious to me.

All I know is if I owned that coin and were trying to sell it, you bet your bottom dollar I'd provide better photographic evidence that I had what I claim to be selling. Photos of the 3, photos head-on instead of angled... very fishy indeed.

I'm no expert on Canadian coinage, but even from the poor photos, the alignment on the numerals in the date and denomination relative to "CENTS" seems correct when compared to the mounted coin. It might be legit, but can't say for sure.

I don't know this coin very well, but I did notice that the 9 in the date seems a bit high. Do flat top 3's come that way as well?
