"To ColonelJessup Jeez, folks, all he was doing was saying "hello"

Yes, this was the key. Obviously, I do not make it a point here on the boards to "rain on the parade" of anyone ... dealer or collector. But, MCW did not just say "hello" and leave it at that. MCW asked for honest feedback about the site.
I, in fact, went to the site for the purpose of buying a 1996 Silver Eagle in PCGS-MS69. Dealer high bid on the CCE network is $83 right now (other than the $102 bid I personally placed to become high bidder now). I missed buying a couple coins on ebay, because I did not want to compete in the $120-$125 range (where the coins sold). In fact, one just sold at under $125 and I was the underbidder. So, I was hoping to make my first purchase over at MCW after reading this thread. Instead, I saw an asking price of $159.95 on the coin. And, hence my comment. I tried to make the comment as "honest" as possible. I believe this was the "honest feedback" MCW was looking for.
One day, if and when Justin "takes over" my website and launches an aggressive selling campaign on line (as MCW is doing here), I will probably INSIST that he introduce the website here (just as MCW did), ask for honest feedback on his work (just as MCW did) and LISTEN to everything reasonable that is suggested and make changes that are warranted.

Ron's been a pain in the butt to other dealers for quite a while. Because he knows his stuff
He's very knowledgeable in more areas than I could mention. I can only guess at how many billions of dollars of coins he graded at NGC.
I find it repugnant that his pricing on any speciific item is being discussed here. If I were him I'd not dignify any such comments with a response.
I know nothing about the pricing of Moderns or bullion. Whatever his pricing paradigm, he's been around long enough to adjust it to "what the market will bear". In both directions.
Best part of his first post on this thread: family involvement. Not just parenting, but mentoring. I get the same good feeling from wondercoin's posts relating to the same subject.
Jeez, folks, all he was doing was saying "hello" >>
And plenty are genuinely saying hi back, too. There seem to be some valid questions raised about Retail+ pricing on a site using the name Wholesale....a fair critique, no? Likely a response that would be given to any member...new or old. >>
I completely agree. If the company were called, Modern Coin Marketplace, the issue would never have been raised. Calling it Modern Coin Wholesaler changes the expectations. It gets the potential buyer to think price, first. It makes me think that there will be wholesale pricing. In this case, I do not think that the name is suitable for the retailer. >>
The OP asked for feedback and he got it. Nothing vicious but honest feedback. As I always say: if you don't want to hear the answer, don't ask the question.

I bought a generic gold eagle from a member with "Rare" in their company name and never thought about roasting them on the forum. I suppose I shouldn't let opportunities like that go by. Life's too short isn't it?

The definition of "rare coin" is debatable and "rare coin" often used interchangeably for collectible coin. The definition of "wholesale" (see below) is not.
Verb Sell (goods) in large quantities at low prices to be retailed by others.
Noun The selling of goods in large quantities to be retailed by others.
<< <i>Hi All, thanks for the welcome and understanding. I wanted to break the ice, get our story out, and get some honest feedback on the website. Its great to hear about other businesses in the industry with sons and daughters too. We have already sold thousands of PCGS modern coins and are looking forward to offering more PCGS world coins... as well as expanding the modern coin market in general, competition aside. What kind of PCGS graded world coins do you think will be the most in demand this year? As for our prices, they reflect what we can retail coins for, as we also buy sell and trade in other retail avenues. Plus as a former coin grader and finalizer I hand select coins and make sure they meet my criteria to be on the website, so there is an extra added confidence when buying from our website. >>
I went later and looked at the site and selection. You probably already have the sorts of coins that will be the best sellers, especially in this country. A few older ones might sell abroad. Of course your primary focus has to be what sells but as a collector my pri- mary focus is the circulating coinage made since WW II. While the demand is too small to make a market, or even any money probably, in these markets I believe it will be the circulation issues that define the market in the longer term.

I'm sure he's catching on already as to the virtues and vices of our Forum, how it operates, and what contributions he might make as he runs the gauntlet required for possible admission to the "circle of trust".
Should he so wish.

IIRC, years ago, John Maben came here to introduce himself and his services, and he received the same, er, ... welcome. Fast forward to today, and everything seemed to work out fine for him. In other words, I predict good things for the OP, and it has little to do with the very mild hazing he has received here.
Welcome to the forum! I didn't think at all there was an issue when I first read your post. Surprised to then read all the posts about spam and this and that. Good luck with your site.
In the technical website concern department, the site navigation is somewhat clunky on the iPad. I did manage to get an order in for a silver bar. There is indeed free shipping, and this alone will push the competitors to match it. Lord knows that everyone loves free shipping.
The CEO (Ron) called me this morning (Sunday morning) to discuss his $159.95 asking price on the 1996 Silver Eagle in PCGS-MS69 that I had previously discussed in a few of my posts here and I am looking to purchase for my personal "Top 100 PCGS Moderns" set. He essentially told me that he knows I will be fair with him, so he will be sending me the coin on a blank Invoice next week (hand-picked by him) for me to fill in the price and pay whatever I think is fair (and he will be happy with whatever I pay). He also discussed the logic behind the $159.95 pricing on his site and it made perfect sense to me.
We discussed a variety of other issues and it became obvious to me that Ron and his team over at MCW have a potentially very bright future ahead of them. The Modern coin market is HUGE (despite what you read here at times) and there is plenty of room for MCW as well as any and all other companies that plan to run their businesses with high integrity.
Thanks Ron for the amazing customer service and assisting me with adding the 83rd coin to my "Top 100 Moderns" set. By chance, do you know where I can find a 1964-D Peace Dollar?
