SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN 60 Schilling 1801 contemporary counterfeit?

Hello,

recently I buy this coin:

GERMAN STATES SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN 60 Schilling 1801.

I pay for him 25$ but the weight is 28.3 grams instead 28.89 grams, diameter is 38 mm. I'm thinking that this coin is contemporary counterfeit. What to do, return coin to seller or sold it on ebay, I see that is good prices for contemporary counterfeit coins. Experts?

Here is the photos:

  • I think your coin is genuine.

    Two reasons for that:

    1) For Danish coins (and this one is Danish, issued for Sleswig-Holstein) of this age it is not uncommon to see the weight differ slightly from the ideal weight. 0.5 gram is nothing to worry about.
    2) The edge seems to be ok. Usually the edge pattern would be missing or very weak on forgeries.

It is hard for me to be 100% sure without the coin in hand, but I am well over 95% sure image

I will defer to MadMuffin's superior knowledge, here.

Is that a rare coin? Boy, it sure is rough. I wonder if it was dug (i.e., a detector find.)

That was my first thought, too, LordM.

It looks like it might have been buried in the ground for a while,
or perhaps survived a house fire.

    Neat coin!

I don't intend to hurt anyone's feelings just speaking my opinion here... I don't care how rare that coin is I would never buy it because I can't stand the sight of it.
