complete set 1956 topps

What would be a good price to get a complete set of 1956 topps baseball set for? they are ungraded currently, I have looked at psa membership and would probably get the platinum membership and send in the 15 msot valuable cards via the price guide to be graded, then others when specials occur. Would $3500 for complete set be good deal?

When i go to look at cards before purchasing what should i look for to see the shape they are in? corners are not bent/rounded, no creases? when people say card is centered does that mean the card stock is center with photo part of card?

If you are asking questions like these, it might be better to start with a less expensive set.
I'm building a 1968 and a 1970 Topps set. I have lots of 1970s and 1960s to offer in trade.
  • Money isnt an issue, my father in law wants the set and one of my customers is selling, they want 3500 for it. I wont be able ot get a scan of it until after purchased, if my father in law purchases, but he has said all the stuff will be mine just housed in his man cave until they move or he passes. I am wondering since the set might be worth that total if it grades out around ex5 and more if grades out higher...

I have already gotten honus wagnar auto photo ted williams demagio clemente ralph kiner hank aaron willy mays mantle. 1961 tigers signed baseball mays ball mantle ball. All from this same customer he husband was big time collector and he passed away 6 years ago she is moving and wont have room for stuff in new place.

  • with some pictures we'd be able to help you. Centering is important on those star players.

I had that set awhile back, one of my favorites. When I put it on the block, for the complete set I was only looking to get about half of that. I had no bites so I broke it up (I still have about 1/2 of the commons). I'd say mine would've averaged a 3-4, with some 5+ cards and a few worse (Mantle and some commons).
2.5 is pretty much my speed.

Here is what a $1600 1956 set looks like:

    1956 set one

Here's one you can buy right now for $4000:

    1956 set two

If money is no object, wait for one to come for auction and bid to win, at least you'll know you're in the ballpark for realistic value.
  • thanks for those two links, Ill see if i can get some scans of the more important people to post.
