I'll put it this way...as an owner of one myself...thank you.

You might have paid a couple hundred too much. No worries though - do you like the card?

2nd place bidder had an extremely high percentage of bids with PWCC. Don't know if that is a good thing or bad thing though. Those consignment sellers have gotten a bad rap on here.

PS - the card looks really nice as far as the print issues that usually plague this issue. The card favors the right border a little more than I think a '9' should, but the print issue absence makes up for it in my opinion.
  • I saw the SMR was around $800 but been watching the card for awhile and have seen them going in the 1400-1600 range so new I overpaid versus SMR, but not sure I can find a cheaper one based on what I have seen.

You overpaid according to VCP. Don't really look at SMR.

If he got shilled it was for $24.

There were seven bidders over $1,000 and four over $1,170.

You are asking a question like you got killed on this purchase. That is not the case.

This card has seen a huge upswing on the PSA 10's so it is only natural the PSA 9 increased some.

I think you did fine for the current market.

I'm building a 1968 and a 1970 Topps set. I have lots of 1970s and 1960s to offer in trade.

Thanks was having some buyers remorse, curious what the VCP was if anyone has that data.

Cards are just like stocks. They fluctuate in price.

The current market is always different then the trailing moving average.

If you wanted to win that card that was the price it took.

I think you overpaid. Did you see the black printers mark under the N of Johnson? This card you need to look for those printers marks.

Yes I noticed that, was wanting a 9 or 10, and it seems the 10s have gotten two expensive...now I have a 9 bird rc to go with a 9 bird 2nd year and two psa 10 1986 fleers.

Just need to find me a nolan ryan, johnny bench, and pete rose rc now and I will shut the buys down for awhile.

    "Shilled for $24 on a $1,000+ card."

    That's pretty funny!
  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
    Exactly.
  • Thats a beautiful card and congrats.

People fail to realize that VCP prices can't be trusted as much anymore since they get "influenced" up by all the safety bids.

The card has gone for as low as $900 and as high as $1600. You did fine. It's a great card and a great investment and I personally think it's undervalued even at that price.

I recently grossly overpaid for a card in a recent eBay auction so I know the feeling, but I don't think this card the case of that. I was expecting 2K or something.

As for the black line, it is on most of the Bird/Magic PSA 9's. That's why 10's are so incredibly scarce. The centering, the printing issues/white scuff on the Magic and the notorious black line under the "N" always kill this card. Yours is typical of most 9's.

    Congrats!
