I have no concrete info, just speculation. I think he probably acquired enough of a following that he does need ebay and their fees.

A few years ago a general softening of prices for post-1980 Player Master Set cards resulted in a significant reduction in the number of modern card PSA dealers on Ebay. PSG fell by the wayside, but they weren't the only one; 4-star-sports-graded, 1base2home, higbees.com, etc. etc.-- all of these were guys who at one time were selling 1000's of modern PSA 10s' a month, and who have, so far as I can tell, completely fallen off the map in the last couple of years.

OCSI, 4 Star, Higbees, the Keevers, Doug Lowe, Roger...I used to buy from them all.

I was one of the people purchasing a hundred 10s a month from those guys, and so was the other Griffey master set collector. One of us stopped, the other one died.

I still remember waking up, checking out the news on Yahoo, and discovering that Joe had fallen into that mountain. What a surreal morning.

    Hmmmmmmm........

I tried making this point in earlier threads about investing in a market with few people in it and was sort of dismissed.............
  • I was buying from him every month but he just stopped having cards available. It was like he let his business wind down and just didn't replace his stock.

Thanks guys. I thought it was strange. I bought several off him, took small break from collecting, came
back, and poof no items. My first thought was maybe he got caught up in something illegal but I didnt know.

I still wonder what happened to his collection. He also had Seattle Pilots team sets, and a small Mantle collection. I know when I started selling (a couple months before he died) he had purchased about 50 cards from me, so his Griffey collection was quite extensive.

Jonathan Miller, aka PSA Set GUY, took a break from the hobby to pursue his true love, nude interpretive dance. It wasnt pretty, so he came back to the hobby.

I know you're reading this John, Nate told me so when he was at my house..... image
