Auction Listing for '52 Bowman Mays - PLEASE HELP

I've been looking for a nice '52 Bowman Mays to add to my collection, but I can't quite make sense of the top edge for the '52 Bowman Mays card listed in Bussineau's Spring 2013 Preview. Any opinions on the top of the card would be greatly appreciated. I will probably request additional scans of the card from the AH, but needless to say, the cut does not look so good on my computer.

Thanks.

    +1

Definitely looks a little odd. The card might be a smidgen diamond-cut, but not enough to explain the top edge.

I just don't get that, that card is awful! How can that happen?

Thank you for posting the super-sized link, and I do appreciate all the comments.

When the preview opened yesterday, I didn't have a lot of time to examine the image. The top edge looks even worse than I initially thought, and I can't see how that card would make its way into a PSA holder. Pretty scary, if you ask me. If anyone has additional info, I'd appreciate that also.

In the meantime, I tried to email Greg Bussineau about the card. We shall see.

It is an original factory cut, in Greg's opinion, occasionally found on 1951 to 1955 Bowman cards. While I'm quite familiar with a diamond cut on these cards, I've never seen this before, especially in a PSA holder. Has anyone submitted these to PSA in the past and received a grade? Can someone point me in the direction of other similar cards or tell me how to distinguish between the "choppy" cut and Evidence of Trim?

    Thanks.

I believe the characters are proper for a current PSA holder, and the cert # checks out.

The "AP" on the bottom left front corner of the case is normal?
and on the back Left corner "AP"
I can see a 1 in the corner of some of my cases, and even a 3.
First time ive noticed AP birght on the corners.
Learn something new I guess. U sure? Or is it just showing up bright in this scan because it was enhanced or something? or is that added by the auction house so people dont steal scans?

I don't know what the signficance of the "AP" is, but I do have a run of graded cards received directly from PSA, with the same characters, in the same positions. Yes, I checked, because I did not know that, and it seemed like a legitimate concern.

I think it looks a little awkward in this instance because of the size and lighting in the scan. Still, the cut on the card is what concerns me most.

I clicked through some of the 1952 Bowman registry sets with pictures and it seems that a rough top-edge cut isn't uncommon with this issue, even in this grade.

Nothing had as large of a scan as you do, but from the scans 33% of this size, the rough top edges were obvious.

If you're looking for a nice 52 Mays, I'd keep looking. Even if it is legit, that top edge lacks the eye appeal I'd want if I was paying PSA 8 money for it.

Buy the card, not the holder.

Thank you. I will take a look at the registry pictures when I have some free time. As I said before, I'm familiar with the diamond cut, but this sort of rough cut is new to me. I can tell you that, in selecting my own cards for PSA submissions, I overlooked quite a few as having Evidence of Trim, if indeed there is a special tolerance for that cut. Evidently, the card meets the minimum size requirements, and the cut is not much of a concern.

Maybe, I'm just a little bit jealous, given my history with PSA and EOT.
