Would Any Of These Bump Upon Review? Thanks. (Scan Heavy.)

So I am planning a trip down to PSA to review some cards; if any bump a half or full grade I will likely sell and re-buy a nicely centered replacement, and use the difference to help finance the chase of a new card. Definitely don't want to throw money away on the review process and I know there are keen, savvy veteran eyes on the board.

Opinions are greatly appreciated as to which you think have a decent shot. Thanks. Have one more card to scan shortly.

FWIW I think the Ryan especially got no love with that 8.5. Sorry for the additional two Hendersons and Yount scans, but that's the only scan I have of the other cards pictured there.

I think the '81 or '82 Henderson has a good shot..

First thing I would do is buy a scanner that can handle the depth of a slab.

Yeah, this scanner thing has been a problem. I bought it a few years ago primarily as a printer and for scanning and emailing signed docs. I'm sure its limitations make it hard for the veteran graders here to give a fully-informed opinion, especially on corner wear, so my bad on that. These are the only scans I have, though.

Nice 75 Yount mini. I doubt it has a shot at an 11 though.

Yes the Hendersons and Yount were part of "group shots" scans and that's all I had on the old photobucket acct library.

Maybe PSA goes Spinal Tap on us and creates their Pristine 11 grade-- bet that gimmick would bring them a whole new stream of cash, lol!

Great cards, Matty. Quite a collection. I think the 68 Ryan is in the correct holder. Would love to see better scans, but from here they all look like they are in correct holders. Love the lack of edge wear on that Munson. I can tell you from here that the 80 Henderson is where it should be.

Didn't you have a '74 Parker that you were going to sell me awhile back? I might be interested in that '74 Winfield as well.

Think I had a PSA 9 Parker about two years ago. I tried selling some stuff on ebay for a bit back then when I was reshaping my collection and getting out of the registry, but I saw quickly how time consuming selling on ebay is. I just couldn't do it solo with work and fam, keep up with shipping, scanning, best offers. Sent it all to Rick at the time and it was a huge relief. I have much respect for guys who sell all the time on ebay, it's a daily operation.

It is so easy to wind up blowing hundreds on the review process. I'm sure we all know how it is: you stare at your cards long enough and start thinking the bump could happen. I'm really trying to avoid sending too many in for review-- and then at best just breaking even on the review cost versus the value of a half point bump. Worst case would suck: where you drop the coin and get no bumps and it's just all sunk cost. So that's why your opinion is appreciated, thx!
  • Amazing Cards. Wow, I seriously dont know how some of you could afford some of that stuff - I mean I could, but I dont want to be in debt either image

    Absolutely Fantastic

Seriously dude, if you've got the $$ to buy cards like that, then there's really no excuse for having and continuing to use a crappy scanner.

Thx for the nice words re: the review candidates.

Two all-time favorites are actually in BGS holders: the Jordan Star and Fleer RCs. I actually prefer the Fleer RC in BGS because of how it quantifies centering, and I think centering is a key aspect of that card's eye appeal. I am pretty OCD when it comes to centering, so that subgrade really appeals to me.

    Digi,

Yeah, you should see my ghetto scanner: my late bulldog tore the lid off, it looks pretty sad. (There's very little he didn't maul in his short time on earth; he even got to a few slabbed cards I once left on the floor, furniture legs, chairs.) I just rarely use it these days, even for printing, so have yet to replace it. When I eventually do though I will be sure to choose one that can scan graded cards well. The depth-processing issue really blurs it.

Great cards a better scanner would really help with what you're asking. Surprised the Rose rookie got a 7 with that much white showing on both top corners.

    Good luck with your (re)submissions.

Yeah, kind of sucks not to be able to get the full benefits of all the great eyes on the board. Might actually hold off until I can get my hands on a dynamite scanner and redo them all, then see what everyone says.

Leads me to ask what the best scanner is for slabs?

    Thx as always.
