Hello fellow collectors!

I figured after I have been checking out the PSA forums for the past half of a year or so that I would compose my first post. I would like to start by saying that I have read a great deal of posts about collecting and all of your experiences and must say it brings me back to my childhood. I was born and raised in Manteca, California and remember my first adventure in collecting baseball cards was picking up a 1973 Topps Willie McCovey from a store in Sonora, CA in the mid 80s. I also dabbled in Garbage Pail kids for a while, being 8 years old in 1985, but the real cards that caught my eye were the brand new 1986 Topps that my local 7-11 and Thrifty stores sold in the spring of 86. When the 1987 Topps set came out I chased such cards as Bo Jackson, Jose Canseco, Mark McGwire, Ruben Sierra, and Pete Incaviglia. But my most coveted 1987 card was my Will Clark rookie. I continued to collect San Francisco Giants and Oakland A's players from the late 80s to the early 90s, as well as 50s and 60s HoFers before I outgrew cards and started taking an interest in girls like every red blooded american boy did.
I stayed out of card collecting until early 2001 when I noticed new cards with autographs and pieces of bats and jerseys inserted right into the cardboard. I enjoyed the "chase" for a year or so but tired out again and did not even think of cards until the summer of 2012. By then I had sold all of my cards from my youth and my game used/ auto stuff. I wanted to buy back all of my old Willie Mays and Mickey Mantle cards that I had as a kid, or replacements of them at the least, but noticed all of the threads about pack rips and unopened material and took a renewed interest in sports cards through this prism. I must say the thought of owning an authentic wax pack, cello pack, rack pack or wax tray from the 60s, 70s and early 80s intrigued me. Pairing this interest with unopened packs with stars on top on bottom just made the adventure that much sweeter. I have fully embraced this "niche" in the hobby and must say that while I have ripped a few 70s and 80s packs recently, that owning them in their unopened form and searching for that next pack for my display has been much more fulfilling. Checking out some of your collections and new acquisitions in this area has been a dream come true and has helped renew my interest in the hobby as a whole. Hopefully I can learn alot from your collective knowledge, share in many experiences, and make some new friends here on these boards in the coming years. Hopefully as soon as I can take some pics or scans I can post some of my modest collection for your viewing pleasure. Thank you for reading my post and I hope to hear from alot of you soon!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
Thanx for sharing your experiences and future plans.
Good luck, don't be a stranger and I'm looking forward to your posts.
Take care and best of luck with your collection.
But I have promises to keep,

Thanks for the background... while the details are unique, there seem to many who have similarly drifted in and out of the hobby. I wonder if this pattern repeats within other collector communities such as coins and stamps. I would think it certainly does around comics given, like cards, many collected comic books in their youth.
