Does PSA always take this long?

Hello all, I am a new PSA Platinum member as of February 14th. I sent my 15 complimentary club submissions that were part of the membership in and USPS shows them as delivered on 25 February. Still, my account shows no orders and when I enter the tracking number, it says it hasn't been received. My guess is my package is somewhere in holding waiting to be first logged as received and then, once that happens, maybe the order will be logged? I put 7 days in the comments section of the shipping label, but I am guessing it didn't stand out enough. In the future, I will make sure the time stands out more, but how does the process usually work?

I guess the biggest thing I didn't realize was the delay between them receiving the package and them actually starting the process. Please correct a noob if he is wrong, but could a 10-business day order take as long as 4-6 weeks to get returned due to the delay between receiving and logging? Thanks all in advance!

Call PSA with your insurance tracking number. That is the best place to start.
  • No time line surprises me anymore. Do yourself a favor and after you ensure they have the order and have logged it in, don't even think about it anymore. It will drive you nuts. I've had an order that was logged in on January 16th. It's another 3 weeks or so before they are past the 45 day estimated timeline but I know of several people who have had orders logged in after mine that already have their graded cards back.

I haven't subbed in a while -- but I remember watching the countdown to the 45 day clock and getting more and more nuts.

First of all, welcome to the forums!

Second, yes, a 10-business day order can absolutely take that long to be returned. It could take them 2 weeks to log the order, which is not counted as part of the "10-day". For your own benefit, make sure you write on the outside of the box the level of service (i.e. 10-Day). They claim this helps them with the process. Putting it in the comments section on the label is not enough. They will probably never read that. On all of my boxes, I write it 2-4 times on the box all around, with a big black marker.

  • First, thanks to everyone for your inputs, I appreciate them all. Being new to the game, getting the opinions from those who have been part of it for a while is priceless.

If there are these many problems with timelines, why is PSA still, from what I can tell, the industry standard when it comes to grading cards? Is their grading reputation just so far above those of other graders that people are willing to put up with this seemingly flawed process?

My first experience with card grading was with Beckett sending in a Star '85 MJ XRC to be graded (since PSA does not accept Star). Yes, it turned out to be a fake, but I didn't take a big loss on it; however, the point is the order was logged within 2-days of them receiving it and it was shipped out exactly on time. Did I just get lucky with them being on time and prompt in their service?

I guess, having just retired from 21 years in the Air Force, I expect processes to make sense and for customer service to be paramount. It seems to me that such an unpredictable and slow process needs improving. I am sure with the demand for grading that they have a backlog, but wouldn't they do something to fix that? Hire more people? Improve the logging process? Create a digital, online submission to streamline the process? I mean, I imagine many of you are spending hundreds of dollars (if not more) on grading submissions and it seems like a shame for you to conciously not look at your submissions for fear of losing your minds over worrying about it. Not that I am wanting to start a crusade or anything, it just seems like, as customers, you all might deserve a better system.

Anyway, thanks again for your inputs. I look forward to picking your collective, hopefully-not-yet-driven-crazy brains in the future!

I think the key is that you need to put the service level on the outside of the box in big readable print. Otherwise, PSA will assume that it is the 45 business day level of service, and it can take forever to get loggage. Usually if you put a faster service level outside the box, loggage happens much quicker. The last time I used my 7 day voucher, I think I received loggage within 1-2 days within their receiving the order. And at least PSA notes loggage for orders. Beckett does not even tell you that they received your package. You just need to check the delivery confirmation, and then count the days.

My last few experiences have been a slow log time but fast poppage. I sent in only cards from one set as I wanted to make it easy on them and not have to look up obscure issues. I got poppage in about a week on my last two but it was about a week to log. These were just the specials from the last two months. Hard to tell, I had some last year where PSA had my cards for two and half months. Hard to say.....
