Is it normal for cards to move around in their slabs?

Hello, again -- another noob question --

I recently picked up a slabbed card from a series I've never collected before (Civil War News).

When I got the card I couldn't help but notice that it can move around in its slab. Is this normal? Something that is only specific to CWN?

Slabbed (CGC) comic collectors use a slang term to describe the damage a comic can get after being encapsulated -- Shaken Comic Syndrome. I'm wondering if some of the blunting I've noticed occured when the card was cut, or if it happened from moving around.

Does this happen with cards?

I'll try to post a picture later.

Thanks!

I know what you mean about CGC graded comics. The frequency of this kind of damage in the past was a big factor in turning me off to CGC. But
comics and cards are very different. Comics have a lot more weight relative to the fragility of the paper. If a card moves against one of the sides of the
PSA inner well, no damage will occur because the card is so light and the card is thicker than the comic book's thin paper.

If you threw the card onto a cement floor, I guess it's possible the motion might do damage, but I've never noticed any damage thus far.
  • Thanks, guys.

I'm glad to hear that sliding around in the case most likely didn't cause the blunting I've observed.

On the other hand, I guess I'm the proud new owner of an overgraded PSA 8! image
  • I've dropped a few on the concrete floor by accident.
Happy to report - no damage!
