Just came back from my Local Card Show and made another 80's purchase...

Picked this baby up for $100 less than the VCP price which is currently at $479.00

Mdube16 (Mark) and I go to the same show and he told me that yesterdays turnout was pretty poor overall - one of the worst he'd seen in a long time. Well today I decided to go and I actually got some pretty neat stuff. I brought my camera but unfortunately I had forgotten to charge the battery so I couldn't get any pictures for you guys.

One of my friends who is a dealer gave me a box filled with about 100 Canseco cards for free (which about 5 I didn't have) so that set a positive tone right from the start. Then I began browsing through dealers tables and I notice that one of the dealers whose had some pretty nice stuff in the past is there. He's the same person I picked up my 61 Maris PSA 8. Well I'm looking at his showcase and he has this beautiful 84 Donruss Mattingly in there for $400. I thought that was awesome because last time I saw him in was in Oct, it came with a $500 pricetag. So we catch up for a bit and before I left his table, I decided to make him an offer under 4 of course and he accepted. Ive been browsing for this one on ebay for a few months now and I finally have it - with killer centering at that.

I also picked up some stuff to just have fun with like a wax box of 1991 Topps Baseball (which I'll open up late tonight before bed). Also picked up a HUGE sealed Poster from 1990 with Canseco for $2. The dealer just purchased a massive lot and I saw 2 posters wrapped up (sealed) and it looked like it was an Oakland A's player because I saw the batting gloves were green and white and so I flipped the poster to the side to where posters usually have a label to distinguish them and it said Jose Canseco. Sold for $2.

Very good day overall.

I also bought a box today to see what kinds of packs the DS would estimate to be like if I decided on picking up a pack. I decided its not worth it and I think they are overpriced.

Nice pick up on that Mattingly!! Really nice looking!!

An absolutely great card! Congrats!! That is THE card that changed the hobby forever. When it shot up to $75 and made the cover of "Baseball Cards" magazine in 1987, other rookie cards soon shot up as well and the hobby just took off from there.
  • Kirk, no, I'm not familiar with Chris Olds nor do I have any social media accounts to contact him. There was some hardcore Canseco fan on here that I found though old threads and so I contacted him we spoke via PM's but I guess he had everything I already had as far as cards go. I offered to purchase his doubles, but he just didn't even bother to reply. Guess he was only interested in what he needed. Oh well.

Thanks again everyone for checking this card out. My collection needed some new blood and I did not set out to get this card today, it just happened that way and fortunately I had the funds available and I couldn't pass up with that price. This is Mattinglys TRUE rookie and if you don't believe me, just ask Eric. I kid Eric, I kid... lol

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
