NESC on ebay (reviews?)

Has anyone purchased from NESC off ebay? I'm looking at some of their lots and was wondering if anyone had any comments on lots they describe as mint.

Thanks

  • I have purchased single cards for some of my raw sets and have been very pleased with the quality. The partial sets I bought were mainly for TTM autos so if they weren't mint it wasn't that big of a deal.
You do realize that they are part of 4 Sharp Corners don't you. That being said this is a lot of stuff that they felt was not worthy to submit to be graded. Overall I have been happy but I also knew who I was dealing with. For building raw sets or using cards for autos they are fine. If you plan on buying their mint raw lots and grading out a bunch of 9's and 10's then forget it. Not saying you won't find any but you also won't find a lot of them.
  • I've bought from them. It's kind of hit or miss. I don't buy cards to grade but have bought several lots from them, some better than others. If you are buying large lots, many times you will get a fair number with some kind of damage. Basically when I buy from them I take that into consideration depending on the price they are asking. Some asking prices are good, some not so good.

If you are looking for cards to get graded, I would probably be careful. If you are looking to build some raw sets and understand all cards are not going to be mint and if the price is right, you will probably be fine.
  • Lots of borderline O/C cards but otherwise mint. Also very mint looking cards with print defects. I bought an 81 OPC hockey set from them and overall, their quality was better than the raw set I built years ago from packs. Just about every card had 4 sharp corners so I was pretty happy with it and it was priced below book value.

I've picked a few out that I'm going to send in for grading but they will probably only get 8's and 9 O/C and be worth about as much as the grading fee, which is probably why they didn't bother.

I assumed that NESC was merely a dumping ground for cards that didn't make the cut with 4SC, so I paid little attention to them for a long time. Then I saw this '75 OPC Gillies rookie listed as NM-MT for an $8 BIN, so I took a shot. It paid off:

I could easily get $175 for that card if I wanted to sell it. I also purchased two 1997 SP Authentic Tiki Barber rookies both described as mint. One came back a PSA 9 and the other a PSA 8 (though they could easily have been a 10 and a 9). So I've had good success. I'm still not a fan of 4SC for various reasons, but I do think there are deals to be had through NESC.

The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

With the amount they submit its no surprise that some good ones get past them. If you have the time it might be worth looking through what they have. I have heard a few other people who have had luck buying raw and then submitting.

Just wondering why you're not a fan?

High price BIN? Borderline cards for the grade? At least two days before email replies?

I haven't seen any sheet cuts or trimmed cards come from them which makes me a fan.image

If you have absolutely no intention of submitting anything for grading, then by all means, feel free to buy "mint" cards from NESC

I will echo a lot of what was said above. I have purchased from them, subbed and did land a few 9's and one 10. All cards were modern, 80's and 90's.

Oh yeah, I almost forget about my favorite NESC detail..............

If you order several cards, they just jam them all into a single Card Saver. I've ordered from them exactly twice. The first time was many years ago: 10-12 cards in a Card Saver. I tried again recently, and sure enough the same thing. Both times there were several dinged corners on my 'mint' cards
