Nice centering and color. No dots or fisheyes. No chipping. Very nice! As thosebackpages pointed out the upper left corner is the only one not looking sharp. I think it can get a 9 on a good day. Probably worth a resub if it doesn't get it the first time.

    Going with 8.

    Thanks,

    I think it's closer to a 9 than an 8. I'll go with 8.5.

    I think it's a solid 9!
  • It may be the pic, but that top left corner does not look the sharpest. I think an 8.
  • ldfergldferg Posts: 6,745 ✭✭✭
The more I look at this, the better it gets. I'm leaning toward a 9 now.

    Thanks,

This PSA 9 just sold on ebay...note the fish eyes, upper left corner, smudge at lwr right corher, and also black ink bleed into the yellow around his name at bottom. After looking at this one I think mine has a shot.

Top left corner, plus a slight tilt to the right unless my eyes are off....I say 9

Nice card Claude. Good luck with the grade.

Left corner is the only question. If that is stronger than the pic says, then 9. If its slightly weak 8.5.

    WOW, nice!

If I were you, I'd sell the 10, buy a nice looking 9 (or 8 if you don't care), and use all that extra cash on something else.

Thanks for all the compliments guys...I've been lucky on four different pickups in the last year or so. I picked this one up on ebay in a group of raw rookie cards. I also pulled PSA 10's on a 1984 Donruss Mattingly and a 1986 Donruss Canseco, and pulled a PSA 8 on a Nolan Ryan rookie I bought at a local flea market!

I'm late to the party but gave it my opinion before I scrolled down to see the grade: 9 on most days, 8.5 on some days, and an 8 the day the grader's wife was PMSing!

Did not think you would get a 10 but hotdamn! Congrats. I have to imagine this paid for your investment in the group lot!

Wow. Awesome. Looking back, at the thread, only 1 or 2 people gave it a shot at a 9. LOL

I agree 100%. In the scan, at least, the top right corner looks touched and even the top left does not look quite as pointed as the other 3. That being said, I am happy for you on such a super score. I was actually having one of those doubting days where you wonder if PSA ever gives out great grades anymore. Then I read this post and it rekindled my optimism that on any given day ...... Thanks and congratulations again, Tom

WOW, congratulations! One of my must have cards. That's such a tough card. How stoked you must be...

That being said, I just don't get it. I have had a couple graded that look flawless under my scrutiny and can't get it off 9. The corners are sharper. I thought the top left corner would make it a 9 based on my experiences with Rice RC's and having them graded, so I am lost at this point. But who cares? The important thing is you got an incredible card that deserves an incredible grade.

So what are you going to do with it? image
