This is a link to the Coin Talk site with an interesting article from the BBC. Is anyone starting a "Most Worthless Coin" Collection?

    Sounds like an amusing idea.

The closest I can remember encountering personally was when I visited Mexico for a month or so, back in the summer of 1986. The current peso coins then were worth about a sixth of a US cent. People didn't pick them up if they were on the sidewalk.

The exchange rate became even worse later, of course, and then they reformed the currency.

I remember a short story I read a long time ago about this subject.

It was "The Bottle Imp" by Robert Louis Stevenson, published in 1891.

It was about a man who bought some kind of devil's bottle which which gave him magical powers.

He had to sell it for less than what he paid for it or he would be cursed.

The man and his wife finally sold the bottle in Tahiti for centimes, worth less than US cents.
