Jeter Stadium Club Murphy RC - Slept On?

Just recently got around to peeping this card. Just locked a deal in for my first one today. Seems like it may be the one the hobby turns to after the SP-- especially when one compares a MINT 9 SP to a GEM MT 10 Murphy (since the GEM MT SPs are in the stratosphere). The pop on the Murphy PSA 10 is actually lower than the SPs in PSA 9. Seems like a relatively good buy when the prices are compared. Maybe this accounts for the recent spike in price for the Murphy.

One just hammered at 494 in PSA 10 and the BGS 10 up now is running with the bulls north of 1K. It also seems, like the SP, that PSA slabs are commanding a significant premium over BGS ones. WIth the SP, I was able to find a high end BGS 9 (all 9 and 9.5 subs). But I see almost no high-end BGS 9.5s of this Murphy card; they all have one sub of 9, which makes a PSA 10 more attractive.

Anyways, Jeter was really impressive for his age especially last year, so who knows where his stats end up. Add in his clean image in this scandalous era, the Yankee market, and how the PSA 10 SP has already priced itself out of most collections, and maybe this card really runs.

I had one pop a 10 quite awhile ago and sold it for a 250+ profit about 5 months ago. It has started creaping up within the last year.

    Great card to have, imo.

Not really a sleeper in Jeter circles. Seems to have carried a premium for awhile, now.

I prefer cards that come from packs for rookies.

I generally do as well. This is a nice looking card, though; I actually like it better looks-wise than the SP.

Good action on this card too, of late. I guess with the SP being so expensive, especially in high grade, this one is getting attention from non-hardcore Jeter collectors, like myself for example. Doesn't surprise me to learn that many knowledgable Jeter collectors view it as his 2nd best card.

Just picked up about 20 of the stadium club dome sets. That card is very difficult to pull in good condition. Even a 9 is difficult. I subbed 7 Jeters and kept five unopened to see what the grades look like. The other 8 were already spoken for, so I will not know the results. I think if you want a 10 you should buy it in a holder already. Some of those sets are like a brick.

Funny how we think a lot alike. I have been watching this card for a while.

When you get a chance, take a closer look at the marlins and rockies inaugural Jeters. Stupid rare and hidden within the broader topps pop for 93. To give you an idea, less than 600 copies have been graded at all, with 43 and 42 10s. I just sold a 10 above vcp and am having serious sellers remorse...

    hope you are well.

  • I really like the Murphy as well and have a set but am scared to rip it open as I know the chances of a 10 inside are slim to none.

I still think the mini although very lighlty subbed is the card to get, PSA 10 POP report shows the above referred to cards. Funny how Rockies, Marlins are tied. Finding a Micro centred is tough

    Murphy 302
    Gold 152
    Rockies 43
    Marlins 42
    Micro 12

So the BGS 10 Murphy Jeter hammered at over $1800. Pretty impressive price.
  • Nice. Makes me want to crack my set and see what awaits inside.

Noticing any premiums PSA vs BGS for this? Doesn't the PSA sell for more then a BGS?

I do see that actually. Two PSA 10s sold this week at 494 and 500. A BGS 9.5 is still in the 300s.
