1973 Roberto Duran Panini question

I just received this card from an eBay purchase but if doesn't look good to me. All of the panini cards I have dealt with from the 70s are very thin. This one us on thick stock like a 70s topps card. Could someone post a scan of the back of the card? Is anyone aware of different stock on these? Thanks for any info

Here's a scan of a back. How much was the card? I can't fathom anyone is out there making fake 73 Panini cards, doesn't seem even remotely worth it.

It was about 50 bucks. Should the card be thin like the 66 panini or closer to old topps stock? Are the backs the same for all of the cards in thd set? i doubt there is a saphisticated counterfeiting going on... And I haven't had any problems in the past. The card just didn't seem right to me

I think its pretty clear the duran front was stuck to another back. The seller is best.g60. He already got back to me and will allow me to return the card for a refund. So no issues with seller so far... Just be on the look out if the card resurfaces on eBay. I know a board member was the under bidder on this

Not sure. I only have a handful of '73s and only scanned one back for my files so I'm assuming I did that because all of the backs were the same, small sample size though. My '73s are buried in a box of about 2,000 CS1's so not sure about the card stock. But my initial reaction is that you've got nothing to worry about.

Although something as thick as a Topps card stock does seem off. It's really that thick?

I've dealt with that seller many, many times and never had an issue. I wouldn't return it if it were me. I'd guess there's a better chance you got a stock variation than something not authentic.

Yeah.. I've dealt with that seller in the past too and never had any probs. I'm sure it's a one off issue. I've had a bunch of 70s paninis and this one definitely doesn't seem right to me. It's much thicker than normal. It's about the same as a topps cards. The edges don't seem right either. In pretty sure it's a Duran front stuck to another back. If you have another Duran I would be interested. Looks like I'm back in the market for one.

Can you post high res scans of the front and back? I'd be interested to see what it looks like and would be good to have for future reference.

That edge does seem funky. You might be right in that it was attached to another card.

Have you tried to see if you can gently nudge up a corner and see if there's another image underneath?

I held it up to the light and couldn't see another image. I'm not going to mess with the corners. I'm not comfortable with the card and just sending it back. It sucks I'm out the shipping fees back and forth to Italy but its better than being out the whole amount I paid for it.

Nunzio is a class act in my dealings so far. Glad he's taking it back! Just had a decent order from him last week with no problems..

Yeah I'm not bashing the seller. Could have been an over site by him. There is good communication so far.

I hate exchanging things... I just see it as a hassle. There is a significant cost in shipping this back to Italy with signature confirmation... Plus the time plus the risk I don't ever get refunded ect... So I'm wondering if anyone who is familiar with seller and thinks the card could be a different variation wants to buy it from me for 20 bucks. I personally think its no good but if someone else wants to take a shot its theirs.. Just to be clear I don't want be accused of selling unauthentic cards or doing anything shady. The only reason I'm even throwing it out there is that there seemed to be a few people who dealt a lot with the seller and also knew quite a bit about these cards.

  • I have been bitten once or twice by re-backed panini stickers (recupero, recovered, etc.). Definitely no accusing the seller as I have had positive transactions in the past with him (through ebay.it). It really is such a hassle buying and selling through ebay.it because the shipping costs are so prohibitive. I try and save up a bunch of purchases from the same seller before pulling the trigger, in hopes of saving the shipping. And I still can't figure out why older Italian cards from the 20s and 30s always look like they've been through a war (yes, I realize they HAVE been through a war) while cards from other European countries from the same time period look pretty decent. Anyway, back to the original point of your thread. Re: returning overseas. Does Paypal insist on you getting signature confirmation in order to verify your return. It is a shame you have to eat about $25 in shipping costs (back and forth) to return a SNAD item. Do you have any other options?
