"Possible" new thought on Reconsideration Service
I weeded out some TPG gold and came upon a few more with copper spots than I remember having purchased. I'm guessing I just buy optimistically and they were actually there 20 yrs ago or so. In the process I came across several that I'm considering submitting under the Reconsideration Service. I read all the threads in search and had a bad taste in my mouth as well as many others about having to pay them a % of the value if it upgrades.
I then realized there might be a very good reason for the percentage charge. Assuming you submit an MS64 $20 OGH, the graders agree on bumping to MS65. It's then cracked out of the OGH, and then one of the graders go "Shi_" based upon something they didn't see before. Could it be possible that the percentage charge covers PCGS reimbusing the submitter the value of a MS65 coin under the grade guarantee since they can no longer return it in the OGH ? If that's the case, I'd see the % charge as being more legitimate.
I'm curious, doubt the service has been utilized enough yet. But has anyone experienced this ? It would soften the blow if they destroy the OGH and rattlers for no upgrade.
