Seated Halves 1880 to 1889, PCGS graded

Seated Halves 1880-1889, a nice high end circulated run, as original as can be. PCGS graded.

Here is a rare group. I bought this a few years ago from an old time dealer who, from time to time, gets stuff like this. The group was put together in the 1930's, and was sold by the grandson of the collector. In addition to these halves there was a half dozen 1909 uncirculated Barber Dimes, the collector's birth year. (not part of this listing)

All of the Seated Halves were stored in small 2x2 envelopes. I do not have those, I wish they were saved. Most of the higher graded coins have the same coloration, a velvet, blueish tone. All of these coins are very original. Quite lusterous and eye appealing. Those who have been around the block know are hard it is to find these particular dates in original higher end circulated condition. They are tough dates and have always been in demand.

I will write up my thoughts on each coin and will post a number of photos so you may get a clear understanding of each coin. Every coin has been trueviewed as well, and those photos are listed under PCGSCoinfacts, which are easy to find. I submitted the coins after I purchased them, and for whatever its worth, I felt a number were slightly undergraded. But I guess it doesn't matter much on these kind of coins, AU50 verses AU55, etc. Nonetheless, I will make comments below.

For a moment, I thought I was going to put together a set of Seated Halves in similar grade, but alas, other areas of coins are calling my name. I will be selling quite a few more in the future as well. I felt this 1880-1889 set was special and I wanted to keep it together. Therefore, I will be selling it as a group, and hopefully it stays together, but of course the buyer is free to do whatever they want. I wanted to give forum members first shot. These kind of coins don't come cheap, especially when there is an OPPORTUNITY to buy all in one fell swoop.

My price is $9,500 for all 10 Seated Halves. Payment is by wire transfer. I will ship, at my expense, USPS Registered Mail, insured. I'm not interested in selling the coins individually at this time. You've got three days after you received the coins to decide if you would like to return them. No questions asked. I am a collector based in San Francisco, and have many references on the PCGS Message Boards. PM me for more details or if you have questions.

1880 XF40, a great crusty looking coin, there's dirt! Has a lot of character.
1881 VF20, the lowest graded coin in the set. Has less dirt than the 1880, cause there less detail for the dirt to stick to.
1882 AU55, very lusterous, a twin to the 1886, frosty, not much toning, but a trace of amber around the perimeter. I felt it was more like a 58- slider. Has a lot of pop.
1883 AU53, pretty coin, has more color around the edge, violet and blue. I thought a 55.
1884 XF45, what a perfect coin. I thought a 50 would have been squeezed out. Great color, like the 83, some dirt and crust. You cannot invent a better 45. Tough date.
1885 AU50, a little scruffy, but actually I really do believe the coin to be very close to a 60, very little wear, if any. I graded it 55. The coin has the violet and amber around the edges.
1886 AU55, I felt this coin was oh so close to uncirculated, 61ish. The frostiest coin in the group. A little better than its twin, the 1882. Great coin!
1887 XF45, very simlilar in vibe to the 1884. I like the 1884 a tad better, but I would call this 1887 a 9 on a scale of 10. I think 1887 is the rarest coin in the group.
1888 XF45, The worst looking coin in the group, but still nice. Its similar to the 85, but a little more wear. I think its got the wear of a 55. Grat color as well, violet and amber.
1889 AU55, the highest graded coin in the group. I call it a 61 to 62. Surely the coin with the least wear.Great luster, a little toning around the obv rim, and the rev is more darkly toned.
