Older Baseball Card Collection

My mom got remarried some time back. So me and this guy got to talking about sports
some time back. I mentioned I collect football cards and he got to talking about his baseball
collection. Well a while back mom and him brought them out to my house. Just getting around
to going through them. They are all in binders and in suprisingly decent shape. He said in the
80's, he was strapped for cash, so took em to a card shop and they appear to be cherrypicked.
I have not got through all of them yet, but they appear to be from around 1966-1983. He has
them in teams. Is there any low pop commons or semi stars I should be looking for? I know all
the big names like mantle ,mays, rose etc.
I dont know a lot about baseball cards so I thought this would be the place to ask.

edited to try and add pic. Didnt work

guys, I just found a 1964 Mantle (at least I think). White border with Yankees in
red on top. But of course, it has been colored on. Card would probably grade
in the 4-6 neighborhood otherwise. With the coloring, can you get a number grade
(1-2) or only slabbed as authenic?

  • It depends on how much. It will probably get a grade with a MK qualifier.

The trimming on the top border is pretty brutal, unfortunately.

It could be, I dont know. But in person it dont look like it. The top, middle of
the card is slightly bent back. Kinda looks like it was done trying to take it out
    of the sheet.

I found 3 of these. I recognize the name but that dont mean nothinimage

It sure would be handy if I followed baseball, maybe I would know more about
what I was looking for. I have found a few Pete Rose, Carl Yaztrzemski, Ricky
Henderson, and a Leo Durocher manager card. Still a bunch to go through.

These look pack fresh. Sorry for all the crappy scans, still learning this stuff.
Didnt Mookie Wilson play for the royals later in his career? I remember his
    name anyway.

Always nice to find some older cards. Unfortunately in your case, there is not much value there.

Mookie - a buck or so.

Colavito - a couple of bucks

Mantle - A MICK fan may give you $20 - $25 for the card. Throw it on eBay for .99 and let it fly.

Edited to add: IMO not worth spending any money getting them slabbed.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

Ya, I know most of this stuff is junk. I was more suprised thumbing through his books
at how good of shape they are in for a kids collection. The cards I had as a kid, you would
probably have a hard time proving they used to be a card! Just seeing and holding cards
from the 60's that have good color, no creases and barely touched corners just blows me
away. I have found he liked writing on some of them though. Found a few cards with team
scratched out and another team wrote down(figure they got traded).
Just think its funny that he took such good care of the cards condition, but writing and
scribbling on them was ok. Just sharing a cool card experience with you guys.image
