John L. Sullivan / Jake Kilrain 1889 bareknuckle boxing

I wanted to share my boxing set from 1889. It is from the Sullivan / Kilrain bareknuckle championship fight. One of the cards has Sullivan throwing a punch. I believe it is the only photo that shows Sullivan throwing a punch in a fight. I think that there are only six different images, but if anyone knows of any others please post.

Hi Greg!

You seem to be a guy that knows a lot about Sullivan cabinet cards. Do you know anything about this particular one? I only have a handful of boxing cards left and this is one that I thought was particularly interesting - I just didn't have any luck tracking down info on it...

Thanks, Greg. Who's to say I won't eventually pick up some more vintage boxing down the road. I'm just taking a little break.

To answer you question - the picture is a part of the card, if that helps. I was told it looks like it's from the early 1900's.

Regarding photobucket - I've never actually used the site, so I'm certainly no expert. Are you using the picture button in the formatting menu that sits above each thread post? All I do is paste the image url in there and it seems to take care of the rest.

Jeff, I don't think it's from the 1800's. I'm guessing from 1910 to 1925, but that's just my take on it. Greg

Jeff, they would. Your best bet would be send them to SGC for authenticating. You might get a circa 1910. You would definately get more money if it was slabbed. Greg

This John L. Sullivan book from Richard K. Fox is from the late 1880s I believe - very difficult to find and fragile!

One more to share - a real photo PC (postmark 1911 on back) of an older John L. with some old boxing buddies. It's filled out and signed by promoter John H. Rice.
