Once vibrant ...now seems like a graveyard.
I guess that follows graded cards today.
Cards that sparked bidding wars 7/8 years ago don't sell at all now for 1/2 that.
Brutal!
I wonder how much that Davalillo dude has lost in value with all of those graded sets???
Still have many PSA 8s but I sold all vintage in 9 or 10 for stupid money and invested in
silver.

I am one step removed from the process though as dealer extraordinaire Steve Novella does all my buying.it does not seem to me prices have gone down. Maybe 68 and later but I am not focusing there.
Sorry the board is not doing better. Many guys left several years ago to form let's talk sports cards and I assume that is still active but i I do not know. I did go to the National and saw lots of dealers and a few collectors I knew. I also had signed baseballs made with my caricature celebrating my induction into the card collectors hall of fame. Sent them to lots of friends. If you would like one let me know.

Silver has dropped about 20% in last couple months...time to start buying again?
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
<< <i>Prices for graded cards have been pretty strong of late across the board from what I've been following. I wish I were getting the prices I was getting 7-8 years ago. You must not be following the market that closely.

+1
But i still see most prices on vintage holding strong and moving up slowly. The early enthiusiasm and bidding frenzy for hi grade, low pop cards has eased, but mostly prices have settled into those higher ranges.
The largest trend I have seen in the 70s is that higher pop 8s can be had for pennies above grading costs so there is no downside now. Low pop 9s are not keeping up with demand, 10s are 10s which means totally volitile prices and future value is entirely dependent on any incremental increase in pop so you are basically playing russian roulette. The most telling trend is that unopened material for the 70s is dissipated like spit in a desert! Much harder to find over the past 5 years.

Anthony,
Are there any cards you sold then that you wish you had back (assuming it wouldn't change you funding your business)?
All,
I echo what others have said. Prices are selectively strong. There are some cards/sets that aren't doing as well as they were a decade ago during the frenzy (1969 Topps baseball hasn't recovered to its peak, 1971 9s aren't going as crazy as they were 4-5 years ago) but many cards are doing better than they ever had. The $6k for the 1962 Landrum PSA 8 was mind numbing. The hobby is in good health! I think people just started running out of things to talk about regarding their set builds after posting for 5-10 years. In Jim's case, he's almost finished his quest, so much of the work is behind him.
We should make a concerted effort to revive the forum.
I think this had an effect on posting here, as well as the fact that many threads were pulled down by the moderator. The original '75 mini thread going "poof" angered many including myself.
Seems to me there are more than a few petty people on here and I for one don't enjoy the drama.
Please feel free to start some new threads. Perhaps we can get this forum going again!

John, for the most part they were all cards that I could (and did) pick up again- '39 Dimaggio, '49 Ruth, whole bunch of mid grade T206's.
The only thing I had as a kid that I thought I'd never see again and regretted was a 36 card uncut sheet of '49 Bowman. Turns out they aren't that unique after all, and I found one a few years ago.
So no, no regrets. It's just stuff.
Joe, the collector you're referring to is Jim, aka Davillilo. There is always some jealousy on the board, unfortunately.

<< <i>Several months ago (if I remember correctly) there was a kind of nasty thread that was started when a collector posted that he had completed several sets. He started a new thread for each set he completed and was ripped by some and defended by others.

Nuking that '75 mini thread was a real shame. I didn't participate in that discussion much but I enjoyed reading the information. There was a lot of good stuff posted in that thread over the years. It seems to me they could have removed the few offensive posts and left everything else.

I'm guessing as things change - people move on - new ones come in?
Hey there Jim - glad to hear you're working on your sets - Steve's a good guy - used to talk to him for hours back in the early 90s.
Anthony - I'll sum it up for me - your collection is superb!
