NEWP: 1835 B-8 Bust Quarter R4+ or R5+?

Needless to say, I am thrilled at this pickup from ebay. Being that I am slowly accumulating the different die varieties in circulated grades I was super excited when I went into ebay the other day. I did a search and this coin came up with like 3 minutes to bid. I have never logged on that fast in my life hoping my computer wouldn't freeze or that I didn't screw up my login.
The older bust quarter book calls this an R4+. The newer book calls it an R5+. Any opinions?

i've since learned r5 within many series is only just when it begins to get interesting (and some r6 carry a miniscule premium) and most coins can be obtained within a reasonable premium
had the coin been gradable xf+, that may be a different story
so much is turning up across all of numismatics, we will be due (if not due now) for a major update in rarity estimates. hard to do with hoarding going on

The OP paid no premium for the variety as far as I can see. The archives of Russ Logan's collection list it as R4, stating that "today, many more have been located and it is only considered scarce." Your point is valid but it also is why I am so excited about getting the coin at that price. I have been looking for years to find R4 or R5 bust coins for the price of a type coin and every time I do, it is very exciting to me. This is also why I stay so interested in coin collecting. It is the thrill of the hunt and also the satisfaction when you finally find what you are looking for. The amazing thing to me about this coin is that the seller advertised the rarity of the coin on ebay and I was able to get it without paying a premium. Contrary to your point, I believe the circulated bust coin market is very soft right now and I am amazed at some of the coins I am getting today for half what they would have cost me 2 years ago. As a buyer, this is exciting. I believe this variety is an R4+ at a minimum but I just think it is a buyers market right now.
